sailing the Northern Chesapeake

Storeytime was dunked in the Chesapeake for the first time this past weekend. After a perfect launch from Havre De Grace (City Marina) we sailed East and then motored south to the Elk River. We anchored in Cabin John Creek and witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. Woke to placid waters o...

Abermarle Chesapeake Canal

Does anyone know how long it should take to travel the Abermarle Chesapeake Canal one way from Norfolk south to the Abermarle? How about the Dismal Swamp from south to north?

Re: Trailering w/motor and rudder attached

ok - I'm clear on the rudder. I have a 7.5 honda four stroke engine on a Venture 2-22. Is this too heavy to keep on the boat while trailering?

Trailering w/motor and rudder attached

Is it safe to trailer your boat with the motor and rudder in place? Is there too much tension on the motor mount, etc.?
 ! Moderator Note:
The question is about trailering a Venture 2-22

swing keel listed for sale

I have seen several posts with people looking for a swing keel. I came across this listing on craigslist with some sails and a swingkeel. http://annapolis.craigslist.org/boa/2140533806.html

Hope it helps someone.

rudder position

What is the proper position for the rudder to be. Straight down or at an angle to the boat. On my Venture 22, there is rope to raise and lower the rudder and it could be positioned at a 45 degree angle relative to the boat.

Re: jib question

Sorry, there are grommets foot and head. The genoa has grommets all along it with hanks similar to Sumner's picture.

My question is how do I attach and raise the jib. Is it connected to the forestay all the way along or only at the foot and head?

Thank you for your help.

jib question

A newbie question. Laugh if you would like. I have a genoa sail on my venture 22 normally. When I bought the boat, it came with an extra jib. However, the sail has no grommets. The question is, how do I attach and raise the sail? What am I missing? Thanks for your patience.

Outboard motor

I currently have a Honda 7.5 hp 4 stroke on my venture 22. Would there be any advantages/disadvantages to changing to a newer 9.9 Mercury 2 stroke?

Upper Chesapeake to Abermarle

I am beginning to plan a trip from the Upper Chesapeake to the Abermarle Sound. Any advice on how long it will take from the Northern Chesapeake to the Northern Abermarle (actually Southern Shores is my destination - between Duck and Kill Devil Hills)? Any suggestions for anchoring, marinas, etc? Th...

Just bought Venture 22 - Need Help

I had a question about going with a venture 21 or 22. I just purchased the Venture 22 yesterday. Great deal for boat, motor, trailer and 3 sails. Owner did not want to pay storage for the winter. I am not planning to sail until the Spring. Unfortunately, I do not know how to rig this boat. Does anyo...

21 or 22" Venture?

For the same money -- is there an advantage to a 22' or 21' ? I know the NADA value is higher on the 22', but is there a significant difference between the two boats? I know the 22' has the pop top. The only reason I am considering the 21' is because it may be easier to trailer. Any thoughts? BTW - ...
