Re: Gypsea Dream sold today
Mastreb, Your words are very encouraging. What you describe is exactly what I am looking for. Now I can't wait. The TI's are made in California but some parts come from overseas so the Long Shoreman and container congestion issues are having a drag on delivery.

Re: Gypsea Dream sold today
Yes, I am sure I will miss the Mac. And yes, age played a part. When I bought it I had great dreams of sail/camping and I did at Lake Pleasant, Havasu, Rocky Point MX, Catalina Island, and Lake Powell. But, I am approaching 75 and find the "stepping / packing/ unpacking/ unstepping" is get...

Gypsea Dream sold today
I am officially no longer a Mac owner -- just a fan. Gypsea Dream was sold today. The new owner plans to rename her. Her new home port will be Puerto Penasco MX

Re: Nice video of tongue weight being too low, bad outcome
Seahorse correctly admonished me to beware of too heavy tongue weight. In my case I don't think I will worry as Bubba, my tow beast (a GMC 3500 Dually) could very likely carry 50% weight on the hitch and do just fine. So, we come back to the other end of this discussion -- what is the capability of ...

Re: Nice video of tongue weight being too low, bad outcome
Another reason to always check to see that the boat is all the way forward into the bumper. Just a little way back and this balance is all screwed up. Personally, I like to shoot for 20% on the tongue. That way I have some leeway in boat contents or loading. Sort of extra margin for error.

Sincere Condolences, Sumner. You two were very inspiring and gave me courage as I launched into mods on my own boat.

Re: Installing turnbuckle boots
I just used some 1 inch i-d clear plastic tubing from Home Depot (or where ever). Cut it about 18 inches long and slipped over the bottom of the shrouds. It slips back down over the shroud adjusters. The advantages are: 1) cheap yet rugged, 2) transparent so you can see through and inspect for align...

Re: Raymarine EV-100 Wheel autopilot install
Interesting. Back in the earlier days of aircraft autopilots this symptom was referred to as "Dutch Roll". Some aircraft were more susceptible than others. We solved it with a "Yaw damper". In those days it took another component in the system. With all the computing power and se...

Re: Lasik MonoVision and Sailing?
Idon't believe you will have an issue. I had the LASIK procedure almost 20 years ago --it was still pretty experimental then. I opted for the mono vision and I never noticed the effect unless I specifically tried. I was a pilot at the time and flew a high performance experimental. I never had a prob...

I agree with John. Lose the "M" and/or "T". Folks in the know will recognize the tartan and puffin right off. Those not in the know will have to ask anyway. I like the Puffin.

Re: Single Handed Trailer Launching
I also singe-hand launch and retrieve on most days. Almost identically to the way Tkanzier does it with a couple of minor exceptions. I tie the line from the stern cleat to the line from the bow cleat so I always have both lines in hand. I tie a third line looped around the bow/stern line forward to...

Re: SAFETY TIP: properly label your heel-meter!
I never pretend to be any sort of awesome sailor BUT i have to say, I find the windex indicator a useful tool. However, on my M, I got rid of that trailing flag and just use the pointer relative to the sail. Otherwise, the rotating mast confuses the picture. The pointer points in the direction of th...
