Re: Wasp nests in the Cabin
FYI The chemical name for moth balls is Naphthalene. There are quite a few "deodorizers" that are basically naphthalene (those disks you see in the bottom of urinals etc.). So if you see a "head deoderizer" for less than a pack of moth balls, check and see if the active ingredien...

Re: Propulsion Pros & Cons
Also, don't forget, after running in salt water or brackish, you want to run the motor for at least 5 minutes in fresh water to rinse the cooling system. ( just in case you hadn't thought of that ) Right! Well the Briggs & Stratton is air cooled. So there is no impeller and all of that. In thei...

Re: Wasp nests in the Cabin
Yep! I always have wasps in my boat. An under the tarp that I have over the boat and etc. etc. I always wear a baseball cap so I can swat them down when they fly at me. They really are slower than most people think... it is just hard to get over the initial fear when you see them come at you. A few ...

Re: Propulsion Pros & Cons
... are you fresh water only... Mostly. My main sailing ground is Smith Mountain Lake and Kerr Reservoir. I would like to spend some time in the Albemarle sound and that water is brackish. I'm thinking if I rinse off the motor quickly after use I should be able to get 5 or more years out of it if I...

Re: Help me find a used keel
I purchased a Mac V21 for a friend of mine a few years ago. I only paid $500 for it... he has had it in a slip since and has never sailed it. He told me a few months ago he would like to sell it. (Catch is there is not trailer). The boat is VERY dry and otherwise in good shape but all of the wood wo...

Re: Propulsion Pros & Cons
Well I caved in on the electric option and purchased this OB on ebay for $569 http://www.briggsandstratton.com/engine_power/images/173.jpg I also got the B & S 900W portable generator for $369. So the total for a 5 HP and all of the electricity I should need came to $938. I guess not a bad deal ...

Re: Propulsion Pros & Cons
Well maybe I should just bite the bullet and get an OB
Tohatsu seems to be the best price that I've been able to find.
Anyone with experience with this model?

Ah right! I screwed that one.... it is 180 ahr battery. I should never rely on my memory of things when it has been 6 months since I last looked at it.

Re: Propulsion Pros & Cons
Thanks Guys.... The CPAP generator has a serious "high-tech red-neck" look to it. Very cool. I bet you turn some heads when you pull into a new port. He he.... I hope you have a glib answer ready made .... When I have charged my batteries at home, I was always able to complete a charge by ...

Propulsion Pros & Cons
Hey All: I'm hoping you all can help me think through a decision I'm trying to make. I'm now into the restoration of my 4th project boat in 10 years (a new 2-me Mac V222) and I'm trying to decide between to radically different propulsion options. My first two boats (A Mac V21 and a Coronado 23) I po...

Re: Venture 2-22 Owners out there
I just downsized to a V222 (1974) from a Cornado 25. I had a Mac V21 long ago and missed having a boat I could trailer. I've had this one since March. I've gutted the interior and pulled all of the deck hardware off. Will repaint, rewire and redo the carpentry inside. Hope to see you on the water th...

You can get a new pump at west marine or other such places but..... Another thing that works well and is cheap... (I like cheap) is to use one of those garden sprayers you can get at Lowes or Home Despot. They are $14 right now at my Lowes. Get a few hose clamps and some tygon tubing (also at Lowes)...

pics of my guttend V222
I was motivated by Harts pics of his V222. In March I sold my Coronado 25 and purchased a new (to me) 1974 V222. It was in really good shape hull wise with a nice sail inventory but the P.O. had put a tarp over the boat (not over the mast) and the tarp had served only to hold moisture in. It sat for...
