Re: Where is everyone?
I’m here, proudly representing sunny central Florida! 8) Been a long time, and I’ve been hanging around over on FB, staying visible and waiting for the next good opportunity to point people over here where the real answers are! :P Glad to have this site back up, and a big “thank you” to Heath for th...

Re: Good place to compare boat makes/models?
Sumner has a nice 33-ish foot long Endeavor that he has mentioned selling...if nothing else, you might be able to coordinate a day trip with him when he comes down to Florida to play in the fall... A lot of this will depend on what you want to accomplish with the boat... An Endeavor or an Island Pac...

Re: Hull to deck joint repair
I did something like this on my 26S, but the joint may be different... mine was a flat flange-to-flange connection, so it was “easy”. Sounds like yours is an overlap type, thus the risk of sagging and having to keep things screwed together. It also sounds like your rail screws into place, which is d...

Herschel...he’s the guy. Look him up and ping him. He has had a Mac for years, and his is slipped on East Toho I believe, or maybe now on Lake Jesup or Lake Monroe in Sanford area. Lots of experience, very knowledgable, and also does sailing lessons from what I remember.

Re: Torsion Bar Suspension
Thanks Tomfoolery... the axle tube is rusted badly and i was going to replace it eventually anyway. So I’m figuring out my options... the spindles and bearings seem to be fine, it’s mostly just rust consuming my trailer...

Re: Keel for motoring
Aaahh... no rudders when you’re trawler-ing. Makes more sense now. I like the idea of a set of shorter rudders to help. Just leave them down and locked straight to act as a skeg. Then you could always use them to help maneuver in tight spaces at low speed also...

Re: Mast rotation angle?
Okay, I found some stuff that I’m sure would work pretty well. One question - what wind indicator units are you using? Or are you plugging this into a multipurpose autopilot / trip computer (Raymarine, Garnin, etc.)? What I’m wanting to check into is what auxiliary inputs these devices have availabl...

Re: Torsion Bar Suspension
Speaking of this - if i wanted to change my old axle and springs on my original steel S trailer to these, would it work?

Re: Mast rotation angle?
You could mount an analog radial position sensor on the leading edge of the mast at the level of the shroud connector, where the curved spreader holder piece is mounted that doesn’t turn.(think of attaching a little pointer to the front of the mast that passes over a curved sensor that can tell wher...

Re: Non-water ballast
The 25 and earlier do not have ballast, they have a weighted swinging keel (which does the same basic thing). But without the keel, they have no permanent ballast either. The 26 S & D, and the X, are water ballast only, with an unweighted swing keel or daggerboard. The M has 300# of permanent ba...

Re: Keel for motoring
Hey ris, is there a reason you don’t putter along with the rudders down? If you were motoring at high speed, i could undersand, but you’re using it as a trawler...

Lug bolts - oem steel trailer 26S
Has anyone replaced the lug bolts on their classic steel trailer? Mine has the drum brakes, so they may be a little longer than some. Dors anyone know what size they are, before I go beat one out of the wheel?

Re: Making rudders
thats an awesome find, love it. how do you plan to finish tops and bottoms? will the weight of the ali, counteract the natural buoyancy of the entrapped air. or will you drill a hole in the bottom, like the mac rudders, so that they can fill and sink? So in my head i wasn’t worried about the top. T...
