Re: So I just bought a Mac X....
8) My birthday is next week.. The plan is to take the Big Mac to the local boat club, where I have already "purchased" a shed (still have to pay rent on the thing) where she will stay during the boating season. Come the monsoon 'rainy' season, I will bring her back beside my house, like in...

Re: So I just bought a Mac X....
So... after many delays and hiccups and covid and all sorts... things are happening! https://i.postimg.cc/xNrLSbrQ/Whats-App-Image-2024-06-12-at-4-05-51-PM.jpg The elderly Honda 50 is now in the process of settling in to her new home, on my 23ft river boat, the Medium Mac. Still need to sort out the...

Re: Honda BF2.3 Kicker
I do have a pretty powerful trolling motor, which I was intending using for actual trolling on my river boat. It's still pretty darn heavy but would be a lot easier to carry and mount than a spare outboard, and I'm sure it could power the dinghy too, though it's a very long shaft, designed to be mou...

Re: Honda BF2.3 Kicker
Actually Alan Carr, that's my super-sneaky disguise name on Vimeo :) My friend Simon is the guy in the green shirt, I'm in the red motocross jersey, piloting the bendy thing. My current plan is to epoxy some 2" PVC pipe sections to the dinghy floor, then insert some 3/4" pipes inside, so i...

Re: Honda BF2.3 Kicker
Yes, that's the one! Disappointed to see it is only rated for a 3HP outboard. I do think my dinghy wasn't as inflated as it should be the first time (some mixup with the pump instructions, I forget now). So the 2nd time we made sure it was definitely super hard and pumped - and it was still pretty w...

Re: Honda BF2.3 Kicker
While I'm off reading that thread, what do we think of the "Sundolphin" rigid boat? Dunno if you can see this link: https://shopee.com.my/Sundolphin-Water-Tender-Dinghy-Fishing-Boat-i.231796625.7440626724 They say cannot ship to East Malaysia/Borneo but maybe can... As I recall, I saw on Y...

Re: Honda BF2.3 Kicker
I have a lovely Tohatsu 15hp outboard and a dinghy... I'm thinking that rather than trying to get it onto the Mac, which doesn't currently have a mount for it anyway... why not leave it on the dinghy? That way if the main engine fails I can tow the boat home or to safety via the dinghy, rather than ...

Re: Replace steering for rudders with a tiller?
Remind me please, I recall someone saying you need a longer steering cable that you'd think. I have the local, expensive boat shop owner coming to look at her tomorrow. Can anyone remind me of the correct cable length? Off the top of my head I recall someone tried a 7ft cable but found a 12ft one wa...

Promised pics, boring perhaps but was quite exhausting doing this under the equator sun: https://i.postimg.cc/FfJQ6vmH/Whats-App-Image-2024-01-26-at-6-02-07-PM-1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/qhTMXqnT/Whats-App-Image-2024-01-26-at-6-02-07-PM-2.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/jWzR5T1k/Whats-App-Image-2024-01-26-...

Re: Replace steering for rudders with a tiller?
Just messaged the engine-dealer, asking to confirm it's a long shaft... because I recall him asking me the transom height... [4:50 pm, 25/01/2024] Mohin: Short shaft 15" transom and long shaft 20" transom [4:50 pm, 25/01/2024] Alan: So should be OK, cos I told you was 49cm, which is 19.5 i...
