Re: Mac26x as a Trailerable Mini Trawler
Try an RV supplier or industrial valve supplier as they are used for many other purposes. I recently saw them used as drain valves on giant tanks used for sturgeon research. I wrote the name of the manufacturer down from a box at the job site. Of course I put it in a safe place where I could find it...

Looking for a deluxe shoal draft boat? Any of these boats would be high on my list - but hard to haul down to the local boat ramp!

Good one - although it ends abruptly. I looked around for a Part 2 for the conclusion - do you know if there is one?

Re: New tow beast time
We are looking at replacing our Chevy Astro with something similar as we like the versatility. One new contender is the Nissan NV. http://www.nissancommercialvehicles.com
Our local dealer doesn't carry them - has anyone else tried one as they have a decent tow rating?

Re: Dual axle aluminum trailer
Lots of one-axle Mac trailers in BC - two on our short street and there was one on street above us. I haven't heard of that requirement and out of curiosity, I'll followup on it.

Re: Chinook cruising the Broughtons
Cruise ships do the Inside Passage as far as Pine Island in Queen Charlotte Strait and then head north offshore to Dixon Entrance. I've been on ships that have followed Hecate Strait and one even sailed west of the Queen Charlotte Islands. But it was going to Sitka as its first Alaska stop. It's fas...

Re: New member, new owner!
One thing you might want to try as a confidence builder is to pull the boat over by the main halyard. Firmly cleat off the halyard to the mast, and take the halyard loose end with you to the dock. At the dock, use your longest dock lines to loosely re-cleat the bow and stern docklines so that the b...

Re: hydraulic systems
I have been thinking about an eventual replacement with a hydraulic system. Years ago, we had a system manufactured by Wagner Engineering. It does not require an electric pump - the movement of the fluid is controlled by a pump that is powered by the turning of the wheel. It was low maintenance and ...

Trekka was also a wood keelboat......not trailerable in any weekend launch able sense. Didn't she end up as a Lands End display case or something horrible like that??  Trekka is in the collection of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in Victoria. She was on display, with masts etc. ...

Re: Wax time suggestions.
I've used the 3M cleaner and wax for the past three years and it works well. I use a polisher to apply the product, then let it dry to a haze, then use a different cloth to remove it and finally give the hull a buffing. I will often need to clean the waterline in August - but it's easy to do in the ...

I then apply one coat of Micron CSC. I use a wet coating gauge from Interlux. It will generally last the season. If the weather is nice, i.e. warm and not raining, I can generally do this over a weekend. Cedarsailor, what is a wet coating gauge? Mine is a credit card size piece of aluminum with notc...

Well, I'm north of you in the Gulf Islands and we leave our X in the water 7-8 months/year. Our marina does not have a water supply so the engine (also a Tohatsu) is only flushed in the fall when we haul out. We have also had a plugged "pee" hole. I carry a length of fine telephone wire so...

Yes, the days are beginning to get longer in the northern hemisphere. I"m sure you all appreciated the extra 4 seconds of daylight today.
So it's time to think about those projects that need to be completed before relaunch. For us, that will be in eight weeks!
