I think the heel angle is not the main problem as long if you have stable winds.

Thanks NiceAft, Yes, it is exactely this block. It has kind of bearings inside.
I could also watch the line. What load can the line hold (braking loads)? I think it is a cheap line.

Yeterday I am noticed that the block of my MRS is completely not working anymore. It does not turn under load. The bearings are cracked.
What kind of block shall I buy? What loads? What kind of bearing?

For outdoor/marine use, the best leather to use is elk hide, preferably tanned grey or white (keeps wheel cool in the sun). Elk hide is weather resistant, doesn't shrink as much as most Of course, my solution is kind of a test. I will see after one season of use. For the price of professional yacht...

well, I came on this solution, when I saw the price from Yacht shops. The leather set for a wheel was 130Euros...
So I stayed with 8.50 for the leather set and 7.50 for additional thread...

Hershel has a '98 X (pretty sure) and I was amazed at how light and responsive the steering was in it. You can get good steering in these 1st gen X models. Hopefully he'll chime in and tell us exactly what he has and what he may have done to keep it working so well. I can't imagine that modifying y...
