Re: Heaving to

Too light and too much freeboard to heave-to in a storm. I heave-to for lunch or to make a coffee, if a storm is around just go home.

Re: removing wheel

I used a lot of penetrant and let it sit overnight. Then I drilled a small 1/8th inch hole into the center of the stud so that my puller wouldn't slip. If you do that, you shouldn't have a problem with the HB puller or risk mushrooming the stud. Don't hit the end of the stud with a hammer either, y...

Re: Lee Cloth

I just store all my stuff on the starboard side of the aft berth and I sleep on the port side. I make sure the sail bags are in the middle, when I roll just get stop in them.

I'm thinking a 60 would be good also. Now to figure out which one. Any suggestions?
5 years ago I switched to a new Suzuki 50HP. I am really happy with it, no problems, it's sipping gas, easy to change oils, fuel filter, spar plugs and impeller.

Re: New steering cable length

5 years ago I changed mine on a 1998 :macx: . I ordered the UFlex Rotech 11' steering package, I found it to be too long, maybe a 9 feet would have been better.

Re: Busted trailer

If the axle broke, it's time for a new trailer. You'll change the axle now, next year the tongue will brake :-)

Re: Suzuki DF50A impeller replacement question

Thanks a lot, Tomfoolery. That's exactly what I did, it worked out great. Now I have the new impeller kit installed. It looks like it was time to change it, here is a photo of the old one:

The hardest part was the removal of the old drive key.

Re: Suzuki DF50A impeller replacement question

Did you disconnect the shift rod? You have to spin the coupler nut up or down so one end disconnects. Otherwise, you're only shifting it into gear. I did not spin the coupler nut. This might be it, when I pull down the lower unit, it is engaging the gear box. I will try it again tomorrow. Thank you

Suzuki DF50A impeller replacement question

Hello, I tried to replace the water pump impeller on my Suzuki DF50A, but I cannot remove the lower unit. Something holds it in place. I can lower it only 1-2 inch. See foto here: https://goo.gl/photos/LFDKE26UVPiAXRL39 I just removed the 6 bolts holding the lower unit, make sure the shift is in neu...

Re: Mac 26x lead (C.E. to C.L.P)

Does anyone know the lead (distance from the Center of Effort from the Center of Lateral Plane divided by the LWL) on the Mac 26x, assuming a standard factory rig with main and jib? If I have to guess I'd say about 10%?? Thanks in advance! For an :macx: , the CLP will change with the amount of cent...

Old Singer (made 1936) as well, from local pawnshop for $140.
I changed luff tape on genoa, fixed mainsail, made covers for both sails. No zig-zag, but no problems. It has been 3 seasons of sailing in Georgian Bay.

Re: What paint would you use on your rudders?

... Has anyone ever had to paint their rudders? If so what kind of paint did you use and how is it holding up? If you have a brand name and kind that would be great... On rudders I used same paint as for topside (4 years ago). No problems, because rudders stay in water only while underway. Brand us...

Re: Autohelm 3000 analog

I've seen this post while I was looking for info on my Autohelm 3000. I hope somebody is tuned on this subject. I read that SEAPUP has a copy of the service manual: I would appreciate very much if he or anybody of you, who is in hold of a service manual, could send me a copy. ... Greetings, Marcell...

Re: fishing?

Seapup, Thanks for the post. I ordered a couple of those yo-yo from bass pro. I'll leave them on the boat with a couple lures for anytime we feel like dropping a line. When I was fishing in zihuantenejo in Mexico the local fisherman were 30 miles offshore fishing for giant tuna only using handlines...
