Re: Need new steering!
Tony, I am researching the Vevor hydraulic cylinder installation for my 26X. The Vevor manual recommends engine well dimensions that exceed what is in the 26X. Noticed from your pic that the cylinder is wider than the well. Does this limit the amount you can ‘tilt up’ the engine before contacting fi...

Starscream, Did you make it to the Bahamas this Winter (still there)? Interested in how your mods worked. With the weather forecast this week - a heater may have been more useful than AC. Closehaul

Re: 26X Spinnaker Install with halyard mast tang install
Pitchpole, On my 2000 26X I use a Spinlock fairlead attached to the bow pulpit to control the tack line. Simply thru the fairlead and attach to a forward cleat. It gets the tack as far forward as possible without adding a bow sprit. Also, the BWY kit may include enough line to have both port and sta...

Re: How long have you owned a Macgregor?
I purchased my 2000 26X in 2010 so have enjoyed for 15 years. It was basically stock when purchased with only 47 hrs on the original 50HP Evinrude. Owners modify their boats to fit their needs - I have made modifications to support a cruising lifestyle (not a racer or daysailer). I enjoy living off ...

Re: Our 26X boat tour on the last day of our Powell trip
Tuxonpup, Nice refrigerator - you will not regret your purchase (or cheese floating in the bloody ice water from yesterday's hamburger). I have an Engel MT35 mounted in the starboard aft dinette seat. I cut the tub off 7.5" down from the flange and mounted hangers that the Engel handles rest on...

Re: Bahamas 2025 Planning
Starscream, From your garage mock-up photo I see what you are trying to do (weak support and not much bearing spread). My 26X is in storage so unable to send pic of my mod (solar panel support structure) but will try to explain. The enabler for my arrangement is the addition of a 2"x2" squ...

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
Jack stands to elevate trailer during off season storage helps avoid the tires taking on a ‘set’. More importantly they avoid the suspension system from taking on a ‘set’ (particularly important with the factory 26M trailer that has elastomer torsion springs). Closehaul

Re: 26X battery installation question
Rambler, Your plan sounds solid and well thought out. Owners modify to their intended use - single battery is great if just day sailing on the bay, gunkholing up the Old Fort Bayou for a weekend may require separate house battery with solar. I spend a lot of time on the hook and am at Gen 3.5 with a...

Re: 26X battery installation question
Rambler, Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your selection and purchase of a Macgregor. In response to you question on ‘How the Mac 26X battery was initially designed/installed?’ I concur with prior postings, ‘it should be in a battery box’, but I do not think that was Rodger’s factory desi...

Re: To Boomkicker or not
I am not a racer and single hand mostly- so I rig for easy handling. Used the boom kicker a few times but the topping lift is easier for me (not a racer). As for the boom vang, it is only needed when reaching and when single handing was a hassle going forward to adjust. When reaching, I use ‘genoa t...

Re: Powerlines & Masts Don't Mix!
Sorry for your experience. I observed a similar event with a sailor and a tree limb. It happens fast - but is in slow motion when reliving (don't relive it). To recover some of your cost you may want to consider chopping into 4'~5' sections and selling to Mac owners that are converting to trawlers. ...
