Re: Slip fees
Is that Marina de Sur? I was considering that, but couldn't justify the cost. I may end up doing the mast up storage at Elephant Butte which is a little over $500 a year. A 28x12 open of course here in New Mexico is $2754.80 annually, and no longer available with monthly options. They do allow a pay...

Re: Trailer serial number ?
Yeah, paint and surface rust made mine pretty hard to read, but I took some steel wool to it. Muriatic acid might help as well since it eats rust.

Re: Trailer serial number ?
mines early 80s, so take this with a grain of salt... Mine had a on the front left that was faded. But after some searching, I found the number stamped in the metal on right side. It was on the top of the diagonal frame piece that tapered in from the full width to center.

Re: Possibly buying a Mac 25 and looking for some advice
Since the distance is short, a $30 UHaul local rental is the easiest way to get the boat home. Then you start worrying about tow capacity.vizwhiz wrote:
Don't be discouraged! Have you checked the tow capacity of your Windstar? A short trip, taken slowly, might be okay to get the boat back to your yard!

Re: Macgregor 22 - Standing Rigging Specs
It seems no one knows the correct length for stays. I asked a while back about fore and back stay length for my Mac 25, and got no response. Even if you go to bwyachts.com and buy new stays/shrouds they ask you to send in the old ones for them to make up new ones. I'd have thought that the info woul...

Re: Slug gate
One source for something similar is: http://mastgates.com/ They look to have three designs--the nicest looking is the internal one which stays in place while you push each slug in and up and the gate deflects enough to allow the slug in, but pops back into place to keep the slugs from coming out. Th...

Re: Winter time: blogs, videos and stories....
Most of the US southwest get crazy winds in the spring--50mph and higher gusts are common. Add to that the fact that Lake Powell is a long skinny canyon that has been flooded, and you get perfect conditions for narrow high speed channels of air. Down in southern NM where I live spring is the least a...

Re: hole in sail
http://www.boaterbits.ca/sailboat-hardware/rigging/tape.html I use this. Held for an entire season until I repaired my sail. Seems like it could have held forever, Out of curiosity, did you put the tape on both sides of the hole, or just one? I've got a few holes in my sail that need fixing before ...

Re: Battery size?
Right now the boat parks right next to an outdoor outlet in front of my house, so my plan was to add a charger internal to the boat as well as one or two batteries, depending on what fits. I also expect to be re-doing the electrical system from scratch since what's there now is very minimal. I'm thi...

Battery size?
What size battery normally fits in the battery compartment on a Mac 25 without causing problems? I'm guessing group 24, but I'm wondering what Macgregor originally specced for that area.

Re: Venture of Newport
Nice pics. I was looking at the eBay ad thinking that the boat would really nice with dark color sails--and the maroon sails on your's are very pretty. If it was closer, and I didn't already have my 25 to worry about fixing up, I'd probably be all over that one. It looks rough, but not too bad. Geof

If this boat belongs to anyone on this Board, please pony up for an ad. I like the bow sprit mod! I'm not sure that's a mod, judging from this pic: http://www.sailingtexas.com/Pics/picventure23101a.jpg ( http://www.sailingtexas.com/sventure23101.html ) And a bunch of other pictures if you do a goog...

Venture of Newport
If you like the lines of the old Venture of Newport, there is one on eBay at the moment on one of those charity sales:

A bit of a fixer upper, but a potentially pretty boat.

Re: Towing: Mazda CX-9 vs Nissan Pathfinder
I'm from New Mexico where we do crazy insane things with our cars (once towed a 20,000lb single wide with a F250...) so I'll be Mr. Contrary here. I would say that a vehicle with a 3500lb tow capacity should be fine, just make sure you have enough tongue weight, and if you are close to the capacity ...

I didn't see any mention of destructive testing. I saw a mention of wanting to confirm certain assumptions with real world tests and the hull of the 26D is the most similar hull to the design they are contemplating. My guess is the free paint and polish is because to do the testing they'll be markin...
