Re: Self tacking jib
Something I built for my current yacht. First requirement is that the jib to be self tacked fits inside the forestay / mast triangle. Larger sizes - gets a tad messy. So - and I am going from memory now - from the cabin top tracks - add another jib car with no pulley on the starboard car and a jib c...

Re: Hi from Oceanside - Bought a X
With respect to the transducer. If it is a transom mount it can still be positioned inside the hull firing through the hull. The Mac is a solid fiberglass hull so no issue with foam or coremat - just the the ballast tanks to avoid of course. re ballast tanks, I am not sure of the layout in the X mod...

Re: High Sides
The problem no one has mentioned is when a really stiff breeze is blowing you away from the dock; when the bow gets close, the stern will be blown several feet away, and vice versa. . . . . . That is why I mentioned - if you have room, drive the hull forward under power. The hull will end up parall...

Re: High Sides
A tip Ray from Blue Water Yachts gave me was to run a line from the bow to stern. This becomes a grab line. Jump off the dock and grab this line someplace and pull the boat in. In the MYCBC club it is actually referred to as the 'ray line'. 😀 Can I add - based on experience - do NOT "just"...

Re: High Sides
Consider a bow to stern line - already mentioned - but it need to have a fair degree of slack. Now get a telescoping gaff and screw a small plastic clip to the gaff end. Telescoping action is required - that will soon become obvious. The bow to stern line clips to the gaff. Now you will not drop the...

Re: Where are the Leaks and the Bilge?
The 26M has / had one design flaw / build flaw that allowed rain water into the bilge. The "leak" is where the rudder pull down lines pass through the deck and down to the rudder stanchions inside the cabin. If the build was ok the hole in the deck aligned with the hollow rudder stanchions...

Re: Hard top Dodger
I like the idea of hard top dodger but how do you deal with raising and lowering the mast? I have measured on my :macm: and when the mast is lowered to the stern mast crutch, there is about 8” clearance above rear of sliding hatch. I see 3 options: 1. Mast lowers onto dodger. Requiring raising rear...

Re: Community Inverter
Regarding inverters. Check what you buy. Many will not start up under load. You need to disconnect the main load, then apply the 12volt power then reconnect the main load. This can be an issue. You can get inverters with "soft start" that will check for a load every few seconds and if no l...

Old MacGregor26.com website
Been along time since I posted here. My Mac 26M is gone but while I was active I did suck the entire macgregor26m.com website into a 700 page PDF with cross links in the PDF working. The PDF is 33Mbyte. I could provide a link to download this PDF but before doing so the forum moderators might consid...

Re: Safety wire instead or Ring Dings?
Slide some clear plastic tube over the chain plates. You can see if things are intact and the tube will stop stray losses of ring dings.

Re: Mainsail down haul
+1 but when I did it I had a pulley at the mast base, a pulley on the stanchion base and a cleat mounted on a stanchion closest to the cockpit to keep the line tidy. I also had slugs. To mount the pulley at the mast base I attached a boom bail between the two ends of the bolt that holds the mast to ...

Re: Organizing stay wires when trailering
Buy a pack of 100 releasable zip ties. 8mm wide, 500mm in length. Black so UV proof and zip tie everything up. Quick and fast. Use the ZIP ties to zip the stays to the safety rails to hold them off the deck.

Re: Rotating Mast on 26M - how sticky is it supposed to be?
When I installed a Johnson lever on the forestay I could then really tension up the rig. I got the rake correct and used a loos gauge on the shrouds (350lb outer and 175 inner from memory - but been awhile) - the point being that the shrouds played like a guitar string once all set up . . . . imposs...

Re: Alloy wheels
Hi all, Anyone put alloy wheels on the standard Mac Al trailer? Getting sick of looking at rusty wheels - even after removing them, wite brushing back to bare metal, priming and painting, after six months and even washing them down after every lauch and retrieve, still not pretty. I guess I need to...
