Re: Heeling a VN23

I find that on my V21 dumping the main takes too long, by the time the main dumps out enough i'm already heeling enough to scare everyone on board including myself. It seems that i have to help push the mast out to get it to spill enough. I usually just let go of the jib sheets, right then she loose...

Re: Parts Source for 2-22

I sourced my parts locally. For the stainless hardware you can get it mostly at Lowes or Homedepot. West marine also carries some stainless hardware. As for the SS braided cable 5/16 IIRC for my v21 i also got that and associated hardware from Homedepot. It might not be the best stainless cable for ...

Re: Keel problems on V 2-22

you can use fiberglass resin (epoxy resin) as filler. You mix it with filler that you can buy from the epoxy distributor...i used US epoxies and i did not pay the extra $$ for the west products.

You can also mix saw dust with epoxy resin to make a filler.

Re: Request for destination recommendation

south carolina has some weird weather. I'm about 4 hours from Charleston or Hilton head in the upstate. Last april the temps were so cold that i was catching trout off of my front porch. Coat, pants, shoes, winter hat. In March the year before last i was up in the mountains of SC in March trout fish...

winter modification to do list (seeking experts)

as most of you know I spent nearly 5 years restoring an abused/neglected westwind 21 (pre venture 21) I moved to the lake so i could spend every possible day sailing, getting to know the limitations of the boat as well as myself and before i did any modifications beyond stock configuration i wanted ...

Re: Finally..pics of my W/21

i grew up on hartwell, i like the fact that the little lady and i can get lots of privacy on that lake :P plenty of coves to pull in and beach/drop anchor. My parents now have a weekend home on hartwelll (seneca river). Their neighbor keeps a Cal 25 in the same cove. While it has the same issues wit...

Re: Finally..pics of my W/21

Stone love..where is that sailing venue? Lake in SC? i wouldn't call it a sailing venue...I live on Saluda lake. Not the best lake for sailing but it's pretty good for fishing, kayaking. Not as many PWC's as some of larger lakes here in the upstate (hartwell, keowee). I personally prefer to be sail...

Re: Finally..pics of my W/21

How do you reach that ladder to board the boat. :P You can probably search the mods section for a better place to mount it. :P :P i usually store the ladder inside the cabin but last week while i was installing the new speakers in the boat i had the ladder on on the side of the boat so my son could...

Re: pics of traveler in venture 21??? anyone got one

my dimensions are a little different 20 ft 5 inches will give me enough room to comfortably sit on the throw cushion and wear my fishing hat that my little lady hates. I can tilt beverages too! and for the foot 9 ft is the max from one end of foot to the other, i'm thinking shorten it to 8ft 7 inche...

Re: pics of traveler in venture 21??? anyone got one

thanks for the input. With nothing in the way and being 6ft 2 i find going down into the cabin a PITA!!! So i am defiantly going to weigh in on this. My boat isn't actually a venture 21, its a west wind 21, made before Roger started building the Ventures but still build/designed by him. In most ways...

Re: pics of traveler in venture 21??? anyone got one

let me know that your opnions are.

If the traveler will make my ability to spill air easier (lower the amount of heeling i see during a gust) this is exactly what i want.

Re: pics of traveler in venture 21??? anyone got one

after a bit of research I think i want to take the dive into the traveler system. I think i want to mount it along the boards that hold up my keel winch (2 individual 2x4's) right infront of my companion way hatch. I'm thinking about a: Harken 4:1 Fiddle Mainsheet System along with a traveler kit li...

Re: Finally..pics of my W/21

Its a pool ladder. Came with the boat. About the only reusable item that came in the cabin of the boat.

I haven't used any rustolium products. I know it works ok.for.automotive purposes. The porch and patio paint is made for high traffic use. They do make or used to make rustolium top side paint.

Re: Finally..pics of my W/21

the entire top side and base coat for bottom side and interior was done in a poly based porch/patio paint. this boat is in direct sunlight on the water for a year. the paint job was done right when i bought the boat...some 3-4 years ago. The paint was about 35 a gallon. Two gallons did the entire bo...
