Re: Trailering South
Thanks to everyone for their help and great recommendations, we are all nestled into our slip at Pier 32 in National City, 6 miles south of San Diego. What a beautiful Marina! And such great service - they are looking after us over here! The trailer mods worked very well - towed great! Now to enjoy ...

Re: Trailering South
Well we have rebuilt the trailer with a new axle, lights, reinforcements, and serviced the motor and we are now starting to prep the boat and packing to leave here on the 12th of December - hoping to arrive in San Diego the 15th. Staying for a month! Thanks everyone for all your info. It will be our...

Re: Trailering South
That sounds great & very inviting mastreb! Thanks for confirming that info for us. We do have an Espar heater, which is great for taking the chill out as well as drying things out...so we can use that if need be. Heard so many great things about San Diego. The Venture Yacht Club (for trailerable...

Re: Trailering South
Thanks for all the great info mastreb! We are definitely feeling more encouraged now about driving down! Looking on the internet on the weather history for January it seems to indicate a stable 70 degrees. Which winter month would you recommend? Or is it all pretty consistent at 70? This would suit ...

Re: Trailering South
Thanks Chinook for your reply & tips on travelling, especially about the roads. Our gut feeling is that it might be difficult to find moorage in San Diego. Someone in our club went down to San Carlos with his Corsair & really enjoyed it so we know that is possible. We've never travelled in M...

Trailering South
Hello all, My wife and I are discussing trailering our 26 X from BC, Canada down the west coast to somewhere warm for a month or so. (Possibly Jan.) Our question is, is it possible to get moorage for a month in San Diego (or nearby) with washroom facilities etc.? Any suggestions or recommendations? ...

Re: Trailer Modification
Thanks everyone for your input. Our trailer has very little rust due to not much use and we pull it with a 2500 Diesel truck so hitch weight is not a problem. Adding a second axle would be safest solution but not the cheapest and because it is a steel trailer of this vintage, we are reluctant to spe...

Trailer Modification
Hi all, Wanting your thoughts on increasing the load capacity of a 2003 MacGregor trailer: 1) Has anyone installed 15" wheels & higher load capacity tires? 2) Or is it more advisable to install a second axle? We would like to take our boat down south this winter but need to make it reliable...

Re: New dinghy
Hello all, and thanks for all your feedback. The dinghy is just for two of us (& a small dog), to use when anchoring, or just to explore, etc. Darry, thanks for your reply. We were thinking seriously of the Walker Bay 8 with the sail pkg, but had 3 concerns: would it be too tippy, could I mount ...

New dinghy
Hi everyone, Looking to purchase a new dinghy for our 26X - the ones we considered so far are: 1) the Walker Bay - 8 or 10 (with possible sail kit) 2) roll-up inflatable (this would allow us to store inside the boat for long journeys or rough weather) 3) a lightweight rib that possibly could be stor...

Re: Flushing Motor question
Thanks Dave, The salt water environment is new to us, we are used to fresh water. When we get back from our trip this weekend l will flush it out with the vinegar solution. l did clean out that discharge pipe and the water stream looks good but what I don't know is how old the water impeller is? Mike.

Re: Flushing Motor question
Thanks for the info Phil re the workshop manual. We are in the process of ordering one. We are leaving for our maiden cruise in 3 days, around the islands off Vancouver Island. When we get back, we will plan to change the impeller as a precaution. Happy Sailing, Mike P.s. we have sailed in Sask. in ...
