Re: Running rigging and spreaders
I measured my 222 spreaders today at 36 inch from the shroud to the mast . The spreader is 1 inch aluminium tube with 1/8 inch wall. The wire shroud is held to the aluminium tube by a copper pipe reducer (1 x 3/4) which is slotted to accept the wire on the 1 inch side which then slides over the end ...

Re: Questions on Rudder Weight etc.
I have a 222 with the same assembly and the same issues. Mine is all wood assembly and it pivots on dry land fine but gravity is working for you. I think that bouyancy is the main culprit and I use the pole and rope method as well. If anyone has a photo of a rope only lowering system it would be app...

Re: Keel Bolts M 22 1980
I removed mine by lowering with cable until the keel rested on the trailer axle. Then jack the fwd end of keel to remove weight from bolt. Drive bolt out using center punch and hammer. Good luck. Mine was a real grunt.

Water line strip on V222
Looking for ideas. My boat has a heavy blue vinyl tape, likely by Macgregor, which is 3 in wide for a water line strip. This strip was sort of painted over with white and a red light weight vinyl tape striping pattern laid on by a PO. The red tape is falling off and the blue is slightly damaged. My ...

Re: Keel Bolt and Bilge Pump
On my V222 that looks like the speed sender, paddle wheel type. On my boat it is located on port near where the keel winch is located

Re: Venture 2-22 Owners out there
Hi Scott,
I purchased a 77 as well last summer and am doing a rebuild/modification. The boat was/is in rough shape. I gutted the interior as my first "cleaning" project then started from there. To get where I want the boat to be will take at least 2 more summers.

Venture 222 pulpit, stern rail and stanchions
My boat was originally equipped with a complete lifeline system which was removed. Can anyone help me find a source, such as salvaged boat ?

V222 Waterline
Hello, I just removed my boat from the water and now is a good time to ask others how deeply do their V222 sit in the water. My boat has been gutted with only the mast reaction post and adjacent bulkhead left, so I am very light. My scum line showed up 1 inch below the lower bracket of the rudder pi...

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Well I eye balled my pivot bolt hole after removing the bolt and it is the same dia right through. Basically the fit was tight except for some corrosion etc. The bolt removal, inspection and lubrication sounds like annual event. Does anyone have any recommendations for the bolt spec

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Well I just replaced my pivot bolt (1/2 inch SS) which was not badly corroded but was visibly (just) bent and I had to drive it out. New one just needed a slight tap to insert. Based on cast iron engine exhaust manifolds which in the old days had a habit of cracking, I thought the failure would be c...

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Thanks for the comments ! I guess the first step is to decide to repair or replace. There have been a number of comments on how fragile the cast iron keel can be. Is there any known documented cases of the total failure or loss of a keel ? I am leaning towards a clean up, epoxy or other coating foll...

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Well that Venture 24 story is certainly interesting. I will not know the whole story of my keel until the spring when I drop it from the boat. I choose the drill test with a battery drill and 1/8 bit. The resulting drill chaffs where fine particles with no large chips or spirals. The material was qu...

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Thanks Seahouse for the very definitive reply ! Finishing brings the subject to the next step. From my earlier years I am aware that hot rod enthusiasts used lead to shape their creations, which once on the surface provided a stable surface for finishing. I do not have much confidence in bounding ep...

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.
Hello , I am yet another new owner with a '73 Venture 22. My rudder is similar to bmxer but with a jam cleat on the tiller, 2 cheek blocks and a cleat on the rudder. My keel has a very uniform layer of material about 1/8 inch that has fallen off in large brittle pieces but no sign of cloth. The meta...
