Any mods to prevent props eating rope?
Crabbimg is a big passtime of a lot of the %}*]*#% out here. They frequently use black bouys not much bigger than a softbal; all but invisible on a cloudy windy day and not visible in low light, or when the sun is in your eyes. Ive only sucked up a couple, but they make going out much less fun. Alwa...

Re: 26X: Water ballast leaking...?
Geyser... Yup. Today i had the kid check the ballast tank; as i keep it on the lift with the ballast in, wanted to be sure my valve was holding. With the heating and cooling, when my kid pulled the valve up front (2002 :macx: ) he got a face full. Just a little splash powered by warm air. Pretty fun...

Re: swing keel centerboard inspection
I dont have a factory trailer, but it was my understanding it could be lowered and fully removed on the mac "trailer".
I guess it is pretty low... Im able to inspect mine decently and i cant lower it but about a foot before hitting trailer.

Re: Washington DC Macgregor Sailors
I am slipped in londontown md, but I have been down to the Potomac via indian head naval station. Nice enough ramp. Very quiet. Finger docks to tie up to. If you have access and are on the shore... Bolling AFB as well has a marina. I dont enjoy trailering the boat around... Its kind of huge... But i...

Re: 26X: Water ballast leaking...?
Are you saying that water is entering the bilge?
Also possible your change in waterline with the ballast in is putting a leak below water level.
The test for leaky tank would be to put some dye into the ballast tank and see if you get colored water in your bilge.

Re: Removing the center board on 1996 26X
Just did mine. Venture trailer did not make for easy r&r of the rope. But doable with some tape and trimmer line. Tight, but I've got decent size hands I hammered on that bolt for a solid half hour. You can't easily get a good square swing at it. I was worried about bending it, not just maring t...

Re: Permanent crane hoist locations?
Yea... Youtube is full of sling mishaps. I feel your pain. But really, no other way to get in the water? I found similar problems round here, till i started actually talking to folk. Lots of places don't advertise their ramps to keep the crab fishermen away. And when they do, they make it pricey. Da...

Re: Stem fitting hole elongated.
Think ill pull the boat and get a piece of stainless tacked on there. Looking at the big boy boats, that seems to be their construction. 1/4 inch stem with a 1/4 inch plate where it pins... Making it 1/2". Better design anyway. Right now, the pin can saw back and forth. If the thickness of the ...

Re: Mast raising mod question
I make sure to keep my mrs stays super tight because the first time i touched the mrs, was to lower it at the boat broker's lot. the boat was on jacks on a port side slant. As soon as i got the mast down a few degrees, it swung way ought over the parking lot with the tension the PO had the stays at....

Re: Got in some trouble in rough seas.. What'd i do?
sort of late joining the conversion , but do you think you would have been better off with the wave coming at an angle, rather then directly behind? Seems to me that if I had rough sea, I would like "gybe" back and for , rather then running with the wind, and letting the wave hit be from ...

Re: Tow Mc26
Of course the horsepower is not really related to towing capability. That just makes it more comfortable. Brakes and suspension make tow capability. Its all about the ability to control it. Ask any trucker that missed a down shift when cresting a steep hill with a heavy load. I hear its a lot harder...

Re: Tow Mc26
I tow just fine with a 3500lb rating. Stops and steers fine. I dont push it for the transmissions sake. i also have no problem coming out of the ramp with fwd. if i was going to drive more than an hour distance, think id rent a vehicle for transmission's sake. Its relatively flat here by east coast ...

I would imagine most people have worn out holes... On their boat. The mast moves quite a bit... The jib loads and unloads...
