Re: Winch maintenance?
So just a little WD-40 is outta da question? :( Yeah....sorry....a winch is more of an axle than a hinge or a sliding door. You wouldn't spray WD40 on the axle bearings on your trailer and then trailer 100 miles to the marina, would you? Nah.... It's pretty painless, don't sweat it. Racers do this ...

Re: Winch maintenance?
For proper winch maintenance you're going to need to give her money to go to the spa, and to the salon, and shopping for new clothes and..... :D Seriously though, I did this pretty recently and it's not a big deal, though I would take the winches off the boat (if it's in the water). My Mac22 came wi...

Re: Tattoo 26 Production Suspended, factory relocating
If I were Laura, I would look at Wanchese, NC.
Gunboat moved there because there's tons of space available and lots of experienced boat makers out of work when a lot of the sport fisher manufacturers went under, at least according to the interview with Peter Johnstone.

Re: Ahhoy!
Ahoy! I have a 22 as well. And as much as you'd like to ditch the weight, you need it. My old iron keel looks pretty rough as well, and while I may pull it this winter to fair or replace it, you still need ballast down low, not at the sides for your boat to be stable, especially going to weather. Al...

Re: Boat poetry
In shopping for a new Tattoo, That only comes in size twenty two, to get your fix, on a new twenty six, you'll have to be owner number two! Speaking of the new smaller Tattoo, In the fight over white versus blue, when Roger was floatin' the best boats for boatin' you could choose more colors than tw...

Put it in the freezer over night. Aluminum contracts more in cold than steel.

Re: New Boat design
My only thought on this is it might work....BUT! You're going to need to make this craft out of some very exotic light weight materials to get it to foil. You'll also need foils on the rudder as well. Finally, I think the rig is going to be a bit undersized based on the foiling Moth's I've seen. You...

I looked at the Jesus boat and thought "wow, what a piece of crap", no wonder Jesus ended up walking to shore.BOAT wrote:I looked at the Jesus boat and it had a flatter bottom more like an X than the M.

Re: Power sailor trimarans
What about getting an old Prindle or something and custom making arms to attach the hulls. Then, by taking the original trampoline tubes with you, then you'd have a speedy cat to sail around instead of a kayak to paddle when you got to your anchorage. I am just thinking you'll need more length and b...

Remembering my last trip through WV, it's not really the hills that will be a problem, but the horrible roads that will destroy your suspension! Go ahead and make the trip, just plan on buying new shocks when you get back!

Re: how far would you go ?? Caribbean cruising ?
In my 22? FL Keys.....maybe Bahamas on a dare. In a well equipped 26S or D? I'd go from Miami to Trinidad! I'd ditch the gas engine, and get one of those Torqueedo electric motors, a tiller pilot, a bimini, a dodger and a composting pot and a hand cranked water maker. I think the trip is very doable...
