Re: 26X "Mac Slap"

Over the years, there have been some creative solutions to this. Just pointing out that Todd at Blue Water Yachts is adamant it's a really bad idea to stabilize the swingkeel pin ("you will break your boat,"etc.) I copied this mod years ago, which did not involve stabilizing the pin, it's ...

Re: Mast rake, boom position/level/headroom ?

Generally speaking, sails were provided by dealers, not by the factory. The vast vast majority of 26X boats came with a 105 jib. According to the manual, the mast rake on a 26x is supposed to be 94°. The manual suggests you can use a cutout of a piece of cardboard to determine the rake on your boat....

Re: Kicker

I've done this a few different ways. Initially, I copied Tahoe Jack's modification on this site using a Garelick motor mount and a 4 hp two-stroke Mercury. (As per the photo of the boat in the sling.) This was fine for a few years, but when I moved to saltwater permanently, the aluminum mount eventu...

Re: Planning a trip up the inside passage to Alaska

For launching and extended parking, one of the first places I would check is Point Roberts Marina. It's a nice marina with extensive parking and a great jumping off point for the San Juans or Canada. I would also expect it would be relatively safe. (I have never parked there, I've only been there by...

Re: Installing a bilge pump

I had one of the battery operated transfer pumps like the one you have in the photo. I used it to drain water from the dinghy, but found it ineffective and It permanently perished during the third use (yes, I changed the batteries). I bought a 110 volt sump pump instead. It runs off the inverter and...

Re: Securing Paddle Board

Hello Starscream. How long is your paddle board? I was admiring your photo showing how you have it stored on your boat and am considering doing the same thing with a sea kayak. Thanks for your help.

Re: Bimini and boom clearance

When I bought my 26x about a decade ago, the previous owner had installed a regular bimini of the type you can buy from any boating supply store. It was totally adequate if all you need is a bimini. The tubes were the same as it used by Blue Water Yachts, one-inch aluminum. I've now had the Blue Wat...

Re: Going from 2 batteries to 3

Folks connect 12 volt batteries in multiple battery banks all the time. On my 26X, I have a ProMariner 1250P 50 amp charger connected to six 105 AH lead acid batteries. There's no obvious reason you would not be able to simply add it additional battery in parallel to one of your existing batteries a...

Re: Swim ladder advice for 26X

Here is a link to a ladder that is detachable and attaches at the top of the gunwales, not out the stern. The six-rung version extends well down into the water. You should measure the ladder and your boat to make sure it's appropriate for your use. https://www.westmarine.com/west-marine-gunwale-moun...

Re: RePowering 26X...advice on steering, re-enforcement

If the steering is very loose, chances are high your steering cable has stretched. This is a common problem. You can contact Blue Water Yachts in Seattle for a replacement cable for all boat models and steering setups. http://www.bwyachts.com/ In my experience on my 2002 26x, the steering will turn ...

Re: Fuel Filter (what is this?)

I have a 2016 Suzuki DF60AV. Other models might be different. The fuel filter is pretty accessible by tilting the motor up a little bit, but it's a tight fit at a difficult angle to get your hand in the right space to release the clasp that holds the black drain plug in place. It was easier to me to...

Re: Fuel Filter (what is this?)

That is to drain the water without having to remove the filter apparatus from the outboard. As you can see, when I had to deal with this, I found it easier to take the whole thing off of the outboard because I did the work without taking the boat out of the water. https://i.postimg.cc/8J3KRQ0H/img-1...
