Re: New Yamaha 70

When I repowered, I did some extensive research and comparisons between outboards and found the Yamaha 70 has got the power to weight ratio in the bag! Honestly I was about to pick up an Evinrude E-Tec 60, but the Yammy offered more power with less weight- plus it's a four stroke and it was cheaper....

Re: New Yamaha 70

"And to the gentlemen saying they cant throttle in reverse, Ive applied extra power in reverse a time or 2, are you sure?"

Thanks for that! I looked into it, and it was an adjustment that is in the throttle box. The factory did not preset it.

Re: Sailing near Montgomery Alabama

I lived in the Mobile area for several years. There is good sailing around Dauphin Island. Also check out Port St. Joe and Apalachicola, Fl. Plenty of protected sandy beaches to explore!

Re: Sailing near Montgomery Alabama

Try lake Jordan or lake Martin. I grew up in that area. Ironically I currently live near the Hampton Roads area. I am familiar with the waterways in Alabama if you need any more advice.

Re: Motor goes off (in warm weather)

I have experience with outboards... My advice, Start with the simple stuff. I would make sure you have met all of your engine's needs starting with fresh fuel and a tune up (especially if it's been sitting up). Meaning changing oil, filters, spark plugs, etc. If it still cuts out at idle, try adjust...

Re: New Yamaha 70

I just upgraded my merc 50 to the new Yamaha F70LA. I am very happy with the motor! It weighs about 100lbs less than the 50 and has the extra hp, the perfect o/b for my 26x! I just completed the break in hours. As far as speed, I've only got around about 16kts, but I was loaded to the gills with cam...
