Re: Dutchman boom brake for an X

Paul, would you be able to share some pics or maybe description of your install? I have the brake but ran out of time to get it on this season, but plan to get to it first thing when the weather turns favorable.

Re: help with steering on 2000 26x mac

As to your interest in accommodating an autopilot, somewhere a long time ago I read something here about the unit Viktor is designing won't work with certain steering systems. I tried to locate that info because I will likely be replacing my steering as well, but I couldn't find the relevant post. A...

Re: 26x OEM steering binds in one direction

When this system goes bad is it usually something as simple as a cable, or is there some sort of worm drive or other thing that would make it best to replace the whole thing?

26x OEM steering binds in one direction

I have an ’02 26x with original steering. It’s always been a little hard to turn but now all of a sudden it’s become much harder to turn past midline to the left. Will not turn as far as it does to the right. In fact, no problem turning full distance to the right. I see nothing external causing it t...

Re: Dutchman boom brake for an X

Kevin, good point about the boom brake behaving like a vang. I have a Garhauer vang already mounted. I wonder if releasing some tension on the brake would be more effective than tightening the vang on those occasions that the boom resists moving.

Dutchman boom brake for an X

Picked up a Dutchman boom brake for a steal. Would like to try it but have no experience with boom brakes of any kind. Thinking of a single line installation running the line to the base of the forward stanchions and beefing up the integrity of the base with larger washers. Any thoughts anybody?

Re: Steering wheel replacement

Thanks Max E. I didn't see specs on the link. Wondering about this. Looks like I need a 3/4" tapered shaft, but I don't know the angle of taper on the X (10 degrees maybe?).

Steering wheel replacement

Anybody know of a source for a 6-spoke steering wheel for a 26X? I'd like one about the same diameter as the stock 5-spoke wheel.

What does this mean?

Several times I click on a subject and see the only entry is, "The requested topic does not exist." I don't get it. Is there something wrong with my access?

Re: Sticky question

Sorry for not being more clear with the reason behind my question. Wind Chime you win the prize - that's exactly why I want to carpet the fenders. Over the years I've seen this on a few runabout trailers, sometimes looking like they came from the factory that way -J.

Sticky question

Looking for suggestions about the best adhesive to use for applying outdoor carpet to the surface of metal trailer fenders. Of course the fenders are routinely submerged every outing. Standard outdoor adhesive from the carpet store doesn’t hold.

Re: When duty calls

Herschel, greatly appreciate the feedback. Hope you post more info when you're able to work on fixing the problem you described. Does your set-up have some sort of tank level monitor or how do you determine when it's time to pump out? These electric systems seem pricey but with features I'm looking ...

Re: When duty calls

Appreciate the remarks about non-electric alternatives and other inquiries. Still, I really would like any info somebody might have about my question, …prices for the electric toilet/macerator range from about $600 to $1000 and it’s hard to tell what makes the more expensive versions worth the money...

When duty calls

Seriously considering adding an electric toilet with macerator etc. Really not interested in composting or other alternatives. But prices for the electric toilet/macerator range from about $600 to $1000 and it’s hard to tell what makes the more expensive versions worth the money. Any thoughts, exper...

Re: towing the dinghy distance

The vid clip for the dinghy-tow shows the bow in the water with only the stern raised during the tow mode. It appears that the dinghy is pivoted completely out of the water only when not underway, e.g., at a slip. Seems like a potentially versatile design.
