Re: planing in MAcX

In theory, yes, but in reality...Nope :? You need about 17-20 knots of boat speed to get the X over its own bow wave, which means you'd have to pull up the rudders or they would bust under the strain, so you'd have no steering. Add to that, you'd need empty ballast tanks to lighten the boat, and abo...

Re: Size and type of water tank

My X came with plumbed in pressure water with interchangeable 50 and 150 litre plastimo bladders under the forward dinette seat. The PO said he swapped out the 50 for the 150 if he was going on a longer trip - dunno why, when you can keep the 150 in it permanently and just not fill it as much - anyw...

Re: Macgregors and Moorings

Hi mate, I don't think it would matter either way. Only difference would be that with ballast in, it would sit lower in the water and possible growth would be a couple inches higher on the hull. Unless it's antifouled, in which case, no problem Other than that I cant see that it would make any diffe...

Re: Gidday? Where to start!?!?!

Hey Lucien. We have our Mac at Horizon Shores marina on her trailer with the mast up, so can be in the water and away in minutes. We sail the bay all the time, in fact we're probably out at least every second weekend, and I often do an overnighter or day sail during the week. Would love to share som...

Re: New Trailer at last

I spent all Saturday down the boatramp with it fitting the boat to it by adjusting rollers, hot day, on my back on rough bitumen but it was so worth it, it looks great, tows well and feels about 800% safer than that floppy Mac trailer, which I towed directly to the tip and left there. Feel like a r...

Re: New Trailer at last

I noticed it was a 6.9m trailer - did your X fit ok? I am looking to upgrade my old original trailer and if I can get away with the 6.9 at this price, I'll be a happy man!

Re: Raymarine Wheel Autopilot help needed, please

Lots of awesome information guys, thank you! I too am in the process of hooking up an older Raymarine AP wheelpilot and these pics and info have made that process a lot easier. One question regarding the rudder position indicator on the X - how or where have people attached this? - Any pics would be...

Re: Re-powering a MacM from 70 HP up

40C here yesterday in Gold Coast, Queensland - only place to be was out on the water, and ultimately, in it! Sailed past your boat MacPaul26 - on the way to and back from Peel island - 15-18 knot northerlies on the way back - averaged 4-5 kts on heady alone - awesome! Bit of a long haul getting ther...

Do I really need a backstay on an X?

This has probably been asked before, and I've searched the forums but can't find a definitive answer, so sorry if I am repeating :| Do I really need the backstay on my X? I am thinking of updating my mainsail and am considering a high aspect sail, but the top of it would foul the backstay. I'm also ...

Where had you been for the weekend then - out on the bay I assume?
Yep, spent the night at Lazarette Gutter with brekkie bacon and eggs at Horseshoe Bay - had an awesome sail up the day before and a "slowboat to China" motor back.

Raymarine ST4000+ Head unit - anyone got one?

I recently bought a second hand ST4000+ autopilot off ebay, which worked perfectly ok.....until I started messing with it. In my haste to see it working, I connected it to an unfused power source and it seems I have "blown up" the head unit :( Soooo, I was wondering if anyone had a spare, surplus to...
