Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?

just to aks: What will be the benefit of the rudder sensor? Well Raymarine claim the " Rudder Angle Transducer" improves bearing tracking accuracy .... But I'm not prepared to pay $350 to find out if that's true or not :D From my prospective if it reduces oversteer then in theory that means less po...

Great summary and good comparison G

The Mac's low cost of ownership is undeniable and I personally don't sail enough to justify the investment of any bigger yacht. I keep looking and dreaming of something bigger but the high costs only seems worth it when you liveaboard. :)

All the best.

Re: Trailer Mods required overseas

No I refurbished the old axle, still got a few years left in it. Probably do the big upgrade when I retire in 3 years. Did you grind it back? ... Which treatments/paints did you apply? I'm considering finishing the axles with that Black Tar stuff called Body Deadener. I've used it before with great...

Re: What will you miss most about your Mac when you size up to another boat?

Just about everything. I thought that I had a terrific idea. Instead of trailering my Mac down to Florida most winters, why don't I just buy a boat that's already in Florida. So, I went to Craigslist - Florida, found a boat that I thought would work, and bought it. It took 3 of us just to get the m...

Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?

Thanks Axel, Electrically the Drive unit is a simple 2 wire device. Grab a 12v battery. Connect Red to positive and black to negative and the shaft coupler rotates one way connect black to positive and red to negative and it rotates the other way. So all I did is tap the wires on the battery termina...

Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?

I'm finally getting around to fitting my Sportsdrive but I've encountered a potential problem. The manual instructs me to turn the wheel fully clockwise and mount the the motor unit housing Vertical on the steering shaft. But the with the housing in that position the two shear Key slots (on drive un...

Re: Still have your factory trailer? Take a good look at it!

Wow now I can see why the draw bar is so troublesome on the Alu Trailers too.
When I replaced my drawbar (on my steel trailer) I bought pre-galvanised metal box section and specified a metal (wall) thickness 3 to 4 times the thickness of your drawbar!! ... Not impress Rodger :x
