Re: Routing Electrical Wire 26x - What type of black magic does this require?

Thanks all!

Right now, I think we will just let the existing wire in place.

How much less current do LED's require? do you think?

I mean, conversationally? 2 X the light? (length of time?) I'm now going to go try to source LED lights :)

Routing Electrical Wire 26x - What type of black magic does this require?

Ok, who's done it... and F'n how?

I would love to rewire the entire boat. Did you have to drill access holes? Or... ?

How did you do it?

Yours in discontentment,

Ed.

Re: Rudders up when motoring

You'll snap your rudders, or risk it, and/or cause a dangerous situation to your crew if you keep the rudders down over those speeds.

30 hp is nothing.

Driving takes time and experience - turn it much much much less than you think you need to. Wait. Adjust more if needed.

Catamaran from 2 ea 26s or d's?

Yes, I have had 3 beers.

Anyone ever considered it? :)

I mean, it would take a significant amount of engineering, but ... we all have Mac's so... don't call me the weirdo.

You can lower the entire rig with the boom attached.

putting it in the cradle will be fine.

Re: Replacing Standing Rigging... are all SS cables equal?

But from the looks of it, I can buy the raw material for $155. I already have the crimper (swaging tool) and I'm afraid that if I buy the pre-made ones, I'm going to have to adjust them anyway because I moved all my hardware (spreaders, blocks etc) over to a new mast so it might not be the exact sa...

Re: I know everything ... but have a rudder question.

So... Thanks for the thoughts. Not sure I agree. First, my rig is tuned. Most of the issue was that I was overpowered in that we didn't install a reef point on the new rig for the shakedown cruise. However, these rudders are small for this boat - there's no other way to see it. Thanks for raising th...

Re: Replacing Standing Rigging... are all SS cables equal?

Well, let's get the facts out. The existing hardware will work. It is on my boat now. I probably am a bit ofa sailing snob for the Mac community and want the rig tuned tight and like pushing the boat. I've replaced the entire rig twice now and when I put a cabon spar on it - it will have turnbuckles...

Re: I know everything ... but have a rudder question.

Thanks for all the very informative respsonses. Please asked for more detail, so here it is.. My experience sailing is (in order) Aquacat, Hobie 14, Prindle 16, Laser racing, Pearson 26, and Macgregor 26. I've also qualifed on the J24 and Catalina 36 with US Sailing. I've got (I think) adequate rudd...

I know everything ... but have a rudder question.

Ok, maybe I don't. So, I have searched the forum or rudders, ida, ruddercraft, etc. I own an X ... a white one. The fastest model. I really, really, really could benefit from someone talking to me about rudders. The other day I was out and the rudders just ... seemed like they were the weak point. I...

Re: Replacing Standing Rigging... are all SS cables equal?

I bought 250 spool... but yes, 150 will be more than enough. I have a different mast and shorter spreaders - but my uppers were 25 feet apiece, and lowers were like 14 if memory serves me Stock lengths are probably 26 plus or minus I'm guessing. I used the stock 5/32 for shrouds and already had 1/8t...

Re: Replacing Standing Rigging... are all SS cables equal?

Ok, I have done this a few times now. Please - do yourself a favor and use turnbuckles. I am usually a die-hard mac-original guy... well, don't be. Balancing this rig with those original things is a pita. 1X19 is fine, I got 250 off Amazon for somewhere in a 100 bucks. Any west marine will have a cr...

Re: Reefing main downwind

So, ... to reef a sail it has to be depowered. How does someone do this downwind? (Yes, I've had a few). The answer is... you don't. You can come to a reach and not head directly up wind, but the apparent wind must be forward of the mainsail to depower it for it to be reefed in a controlled manner. ...

Re: Leach of Mainsail continues to flap on a 26x.

old sails is most likely the answer. Sure a leech line is going to help but in that little a wind...? If the leech is flapping in that manner there is most likely a whole lot wrong with other parts of the sail shape - the leech line is just the one you are noticing. The first question which I though...
