Re: Friends' boat just went down

I have had this conversation many times with racers, they seem to think the rules of racing (Boat on starboard has right of way) overrides all other rules and forget about the1st and foremost rule of code regs that one must do everything possible to avoid a collision, I have seen them standing on th...

Re: Who makes a good spinnaker

Sounds like you need a Generator from Peak Sails, sort of a hybrid spinnaker or a Genoa on steroids as they describe it.

I presume its just a very light weight Genoa with a bit more belly cut into it.

Re: Think about your MOB procedures

I really don't understand the mindset of people not wearing life jackets or personal Floatation Devices ( PFD) as they like to call them these days (must be politically correct). We are mainly fair weather sailors however a inflatable PFD goes on before we leave the dock no matter what the weather i...

Re: Modifications for stability in rough water

Not sure many boats are really comfortable with a swell coming in from the stern quarter, power sailors are slightly worse off because of their big fat square sterns with no rise to let the swell go under, like everything you learn things to minimise their effects and make the ride as comfortable as...

Re: Modifications for stability in rough water

Thanks for all the input and questions. I was out in rough weather in my X using the outboard (not sailing) with the wind and large waves hitting me from behind at angle just off the stern. Each wave momentarily increased the speed by 5 knots, but made steering very difficult as the waves turned th...

Re: Repairing holes in ballast tank

I have used aqua epoxy putty too great effect for jobs like this. I would countersink the holes first to give greater sealing and adhesive area before filling though. Best thing is this stuff works even if the area is a bit damp. Here is a youtube clip giving some info. https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: Making rudders

Highland, you know from my 1000 plus posts I don't get upset easily, in fact I would say I'm one of the most cordial people around, however I won't be belittled and run down by someone that has obviously has done little research into a subject. I love learning and new ideas and rally against the stat...

Re: Modifications for stability in rough water

Much Like Jimmy, I find my X revels in rough conditions, you can get a nasty roll and yaw when the seas are coming from the rear quarter though, I counter this by raising some sail to counter it, for a while I always wondered why I would see boats coming the channel into my old home port with their ...

Re: Could use some advise

Nothing to worry about, its just because the shrouds pull at a angle to the chainplate that causes the cap to move a little every time you tack and the weight and force is taken by shroud.

Gelcoat is very brittle so cracks pretty easy with any sort of movement

Re: Howmany Power Sailors did Roger build

I saw somewhere around 10,000 BUT I'm not sure if that was inclusive of all models of power sailor or just the X (produced from 1995 to 2002 I think), then the M which was produced from 2003 till 2012 (please correct me if I'm wrong) and then the Tattoo 26 for a couple of years. Of course this does ...

Re: Making rudders

BTW You really need to be able to Match the factory rudder.... pretty dang close.. Close enough that if we all came by your place, we couldn't tell for sure which was yours and which was Rogers.. But hey you maybe you'll prove me wrong first time out of the box.. This is the exact problem Rogers Ru...
