Trailer Inspection - bunkers
After launching our Mac 26 for the season, I noticed that the support blocks, aka bunkers, on the trailer were loose. Closer inspection revealed that the wood under the “black carpet” was badly rotten. One of the blocks came completely off revealing the bolts that held the blocks in place. I am cert...

Re: killing zebra mussels in ballast tanks
My recent post regarding water ballast boats and invasive species seems to have sparked some interest and there is a long thread of suggestions on decontamination of water ballasts. One person suggested that one decontamination method could be to launch a potentially infected boat into salt water. I...

Re: Are there baffles in a 26M Ballast tank? Invasive Species
Invasive Species: Here is a related issue to the ballast question. What are MacGregor Owners doing to ensure that their water ballast tanks are not transporting invasive species, such as Zebra Mussles, to inland lakes? This is a huge concern to those of us who live in pristine lake regions. My advic...

Motor Trim Adjustment
I have a 26M with a 40 hp Suzuki engine that runs great. After lowering into the water, I know I can trim the motor when motoring fast but I don't know how to properly tip, or trim, the engine for optimum performance. Can anyone offer suggestions? Also, what kind of gas mileage, speed, and max RPM a...

winter cover for 26M
I am looking for a good winter boat cover for my 25M. It must have cutouts for the life-line stays and use the mast in the laid down position as the primary support. Some covers I have found online do not have the cutouts and water will accumulate in the dip between the lifelline and the mast. We ge...

Re: Stable cruising speed?
I think I am having a similar problem with power handling on my 26M. I have a 40 hp Suzuki. When running with full ballast and 2 people, and mast raised, I am having a hard time keeping a straight course when I am at about 5 to 6 knots. Am I in a transition zone between plane and displacement that ...

Re: Sailwarehouse, full boat cover
I too am looking for a winter cover from my MacGregor 26M. Currently I am using just blue tarps over the horizontal mast and life lines. My problem is that the the life lines and life-line stanchions to not allow a sufficient pitch to enable water to drain off easily; the water pools on the tarp and...

26M Centerboard Line Replacement
I have an 11 year old 26M and the centerboard line needs replacement. This model is really more of a straight down daggerboard, not a swing CB on a pivot like some earlier models. The haul up line goes into the top of the centerboard and routes through it somehow and exits at a different point on th...

Re: Planned Mods For 2015
How did you make out with replacing the centerboard haul-up line? I need to replace mine on a 26 M and the existing line seems to be well stuck in place inside the centerboard (CB). I am not sure how it is routed inside of the centerboard. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
