Re: Still sanding

well thank you. and your right, i'm not looking to just slap it together. My concern is that I have never done anything like this before. I guess I just worry that I will take off too much and cause a larger issue.

Re: Still sanding

I've been out there taking off the paint today with my angle grinder and that 3M striping disk. I was only trying to get rid of the paint figuring I would come back and deal with the pink junk later. When I was done I broke out my pressure washer to clean up a bit. I was washing away the dust and ac...

Re: Still sanding

It will end up on the trailer most of the time. I want to make sure it's good enough that I don't have to worry about it for as long as I can. I don't even expect that it will ever see salt water. Just so much left to do. Lol

Re: Still sanding

Oh, and yes every time I go work on it I wear these DeWalt goggles and this MSA Safety Works Respirator. They seem to work well. I also wear hearing protection as much for noise as keeping all that garbage out of my ears.

Re: Still sanding

Every coat all the way to the glass is toast. Whoever owned this before me had not done any work to it in a very long time. I have a Dewalt disk sander , a random orbit, belt sander, and an air inline sander, along with hand sanding blocks. I have a plan to get it off the trailer soon so I can get t...

Still sanding

Been a while since I've posted out here. I've been working on my '69 venture 24. All the paint has to go so sanding is taking forever. I've burned up 1 belt sander and have used an untold amount of sandpaper. I recently picked up a pneumatic inline sander. Been using that with 36 grit paper. I still...

Re: centerboard repair advice

good deal. I will look into that to cover the metal. From the looks of it I can put that on the metal, then epoxy, glass, and finally paint, right? I just hope to get the foil shape right.

Re: centerboard repair advice

Yea that layer of epoxy is real thick then has 1 layer of glass over it. I sort of hate to take it all off because I don't know that I have the experience necessary to build the same foil shape back up the same way. I will look at it some more and may make a template of some sort. On a happy note I ...

centerboard repair advice

I am still working on sanding my Venture 24. I picked it up real cheap but it was in rough shape. I have been working on sanding the bottom down to glass so I could build it back up the right way. I started working on the centerboard today and came into a bad problem and I'm not sure what to do abou...

Re: sanding and preping for paint

Lol. At some point i will have to get it off the trailer to finish sanding some of the bottom. Before i do i am going to sand it all down and have new carpet, both (one under the swing keel) bow stops, wench, and anything else that needs to be replaced.

Re: sanding and preping for paint

I know this is sort of a dead thread but figured i would post an update. I have gotten most of the bottom paint off back to the axle (port and starbord) of the trailer. I have only had about 6 hours to work on it so i think it is decent progress. There are still a lot of cracks but with the paint ou...
