Re: Honda BF50 Stalling --Carb rebuild

Paulieb, I posted the following information May 16, 2005. Luke ___________________________________ I have the Honda BF50 on my boat. It is a 1999 model. I have experienced your engines symptoms three times. First time: I had fuel dripping from carb #1 (bottom carb) and rough running. I used carb spr...

Re: CQ CQ CQ de KD4LZL

I will be checking in with the Maritime Mobile Service Network while I sail from Isla de Mujeres, Mexico through the Dry Tortugas on the way to Key West next week. If anyone would like to make contact with me, the net is on 14.300 MHz, on the hour, from noon through 9:00pm EST. The boat's name is &q...

I can't believe the dumb thing I did!

I received the following story from Rick Eggers, Mental Floss. I can't believe the dumb thing I did! The Trailer Sailor The sun was unbearable as the sweat ran down my forehead into my eyes. It was only April, but southern Florida’s summer weather was well on the way. I hurried to finish the last fe...

KD8FWS

I use two meters while chasing my glider-pilot friends.

My Icom IC-7000 goes to work when I am offshore.

Anyone using PSK31, Sailmail, or Winlink 2000?

ConchCruiser Marine radio net starts this week

Hamin' X, and other radio operators: Several of us MacGregor sailors are going to use our boats' radios to stay in touch the next two weeks. We call ouselves "The Conch Cruisers". I will be on SV Jolie Spot sailing around The Dominican Republic. Others will be checking in from Lake Erie, c...

Re: Looking for a 26X

Please take a look at the classifieds on this website.
There is a very nice 2000X model available in Lake Worth, Florida.
The boat's name is "Gostosa".
I inspected the boat last weekend--it is very well equipped.

Thank you for the story.

Re: Prop Size for a 2009 Honda 50HP-EFI on my 26X.

Terry: You need a 11-3/4 x 10 inch prop. The Honda part number is # 58130-ZV5-860ZA. Your engine will reach its rated max RPM with this prop. I also have a Michigan Wheel 12.25 X 10 prop. WOT and Top speed at 17 mph, same as with the Honda prop. Do not get a prop with more than 10 pitch unless you h...

Re: Setting Honda BF50 Valve Clearance & Carb Sync?

Victor, If you look at my post from May 16, 2005 12:49 pm, you will see that I described the process to rebuild and synchronize our Honda carbs. If you do another search on my posts you will see that I have described the tool needed for the synch process and the Honda part number. I am sorry that I ...

Re: Cruising Biscane Bay FL.

Dave, Billy got it right: The name of my boat is "DreamChaser", a 26X. I called Billy as I was on autopilot cruising to Elliot Key. I believe I passed you as I was heading south to Alabama Jack's, Key largo, as two of you were sailing north toward Elliot Key. I anchored offshore from Gilbe...

Re: The "special tool"

Tim, than you for finding the source for the tool. I will buy one. On a related note: The Honda dealers would not sell me a set of Honda carb synchronization gauges. They quoted their Honda franchise agreement and stated that they are not allowed to sell Honda tools to the public. So I bought the sa...

Re: How do you replace the lower unit propeller shaft oil seals?

Opie I am sorry for your misfortune. The Honda mechanic warned me that I would probably crack the housing, as you did, if I tried to remove the nut myself using a hammer. He explained that the lower end is known to crack, and he told me that his local machine shop repairs cracked lower ends. I belie...

Re: How do you replace the lower unit propeller shaft oil seals?

Opie, Last January I experienced your issue with my 1999 Honda 50. The seals are a serious maintenance issue many of us overlook until we discover that the seals have failed. By the time the seals have failed, water has entered the lower end and has ruined the bearings and gears. I do 99% of the mai...
