Re: Mounting of solar cell

What is also very important with LiPo-batteries is if you have solarcells that you have a good regulator so you do not overcharge the battery, then it is dead and you have to buy a new expensive battery.
You must have a regulator MMPT that takes care over-voltage and change it to ampere.

Mounting of solar cell

Here is the way I mounted the my solar cell 35W. It is not so big but is enough for keeping my battery fully loaded during the winter with the boat under cover on land. It is also enough for charging the battery fully loaded in sommertime after a couple of days of not using the Mac. For your info I ...

Re: Cooling box

The cooling box is with compressor from Dometic and their partno is Coolmatic CD20 and suits fine under the pentry. You can also use their bigger model 30 liter CD30, but then you have to put the compressor beside the cooling box. No big issue.

Re: Righting moment

To Admiral and others: -The water ballast will not be 1200 lbs. It will be appr 1390 lbs as there are place for appr 80 liter more water where the permanent ballast is. -As you say the speed when motoring was reduced by the keel with around 2 knots with the permanent ballast still there. When I take...

Re: Righting moment

To Admiral and others: As you know I added 441 lbs of a leadkeel in the bottom of the daggerboard and with that getting more righting moment as with the 1150 lbs water ballast. -So if I take away the permanent ballast of 300 lbs and using no water ballast I have totally only added 441-300= 141 lbs t...

Re: Righting moment

What I forgot to write in my last post is that Majken is pointing higher and with less leeway with my extra keel because it gives appr 35 % more lift at 5 knots. Thats nice, now Majken is good also upwind.
Water ballast gives 0 kg lift.

Re: Righting moment

-I do not agree that extra weight is good in strong winds, but extra weight is good but only when it is placed so it increases the vertical center of graviity and then it is only better when sailing up-wind in winds over 8 meter per second. In all other cases lighter is faster. Thats for the 26M (an...

Re: Righting moment

I have now added the 450 lbs keel and sailed it. As I do not have to use the 1150 lbs of ballast ithe result is: -It sails faster as the boat is 700 lbs lighter. -The only time I use the ballast-water is when sailing upwind at true wind 8 m/s or higher , then it is faster than without ballast water....

Re: Mast raising

To Neo and others: -Yes the tube is also used as a whisker pool. -I only use single blocks. -The winch I have is an Andersen 34ST (self-tailing), so there is no problem to stop mast raising or lowering if somethings gets hooked up. For the schrouds I use dynemaa 5/4 mm instead of steel wire. Light a...

Re: Permanent ballast on 26M

To Highlander and others:
-My keel gives me more righting moment than the ballast.
-And when it's really windy I can almost double the RM with the ballast and at the same time using the keel at depth appr 2,1 m.

Re: Mast raising

To Neo captain: -I have no photo, but the tube I use is used for connection with the headsails clew so I can keep track of the headsail sailing downwind. -When not in use for mastraising or for sailing the tube sits in the forefront of the mast on a track mounted to the mast with a car so I can poin...
