Re: Steering disconnect with a 90hp outboard
When I took the ball side of the socket out of my old outboard the threads didn't come out too well. So I thought I should replace it. I didn't see the ball part of the socket offered separately on the BWY site, so I went looking. I found that Panther Marine makes two different quick disconnects th...

Re: Steering disconnect with a 90hp outboard
I have a 2014 :tat26: , which is basically a 26M. I installed the steering quick disconnect on my boat. We also have an Etec 90. I didn't really do anything other than follow the provided instructions and everything came out perfect. The motor will raise completely out of the water and lower all the...

Re: CONS - Part 3 Trickle Charging Differences
For long term storage (months) the suggested number is to drain it down to about 13.15 volts. This is around 40% SOC. Although being new to this and worried about my investment, I might check it every once in a while. LiFePO4 batteries have almost zero self-discharge, so they are unlikely to drain ...

Re: Lithium (LiFePO4) Battery Build
@Inquisitor I wish I was as technologically inclined as you. It would definitely have saved us a bit of cash. The wife and I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Relion 300 AH battery on Thursday. I've been waiting on them to run their 15% off sale for two years. On our :tat26: we run the stereo har...

Re: Flush mount fishing rod holders?
Just a point of view. Never use 5200 on anything you may wish to remove (for whatever reason) in the future. Much better to use 4200. Holds very well, but can be removed with effort. Ray That's a great point and I had given it some thought. If I cut a hole that big in the gunnel, whatever is going ...

Re: Flush mount fishing rod holders?
Yeah I'll be honest, I was going to install them with 5200 to prevent water leaks but didn't think about them filling up with water. I guess the stanchion mount will have to do. I'm always looking for ways to maximize the use of wasted space in the boat no matter how big or small.

Flush mount fishing rod holders?
I used Google search with no success so I'll ask here. Has anybody sunk a flush mount rod holder in their gunnel? I don't like the look of the stanchion mount and if I flush mount it I can use it for a grill stand or to mount a filet table as well. I don't know what's under the gunnel there though. ...

Re: I have an electrical question.
Sorry to butt in with probably a dumb question, but is the OP talking about a Lithium ion battery or a Lithium iron phosphate battery? There is a big difference especially when discussing volatility.... We're using LiFePo4 (lithium iron phosphate). The safer of the two chemistries. I don't have a d...

Re: I have an electrical question.
My wife and I don’t buy batteries, sailing gear, anything that touches a sail or anchor together. I do that by myself. You must have an interesting wife if you discuss new tech battery gear. Ha! Interesting. When I told my wife I was researching lithium batteries she wanted to know more and eventuall...

Re: I have an electrical question.
How do they compare to real deep-cycle lead-acid batteries, like golf cart/forklift 6V deep-cycle units, not 12V "marine deep-cycle" which don't go as deep? I was comparing these directly to the deep cycle Trojans. Even on the company spec sheets they state a life of approximately 600 cyc...

Re: I have an electrical question.
@RussMT Right now shore power but when we stay on the hook I'll use a generator on the deck. I know that's not ideal but the outboard is not an option for me. The cost is the main drawback but if you average out how many sets of lead acid batteries you will go through, lithium comes out cheaper long...

Re: I have an electrical question.
The reason I didn't do a perko switch is because the charging profile of a lithium is different and can be dangerous if overcharged. The battery has interior circuity to prevent that but I like foolproof solutions. Also, I wasn't sure if this would confuse the alternator in the etec or fry the EMM....

Re: I have an electrical question.
Interesting. How are you going to charge this battery? What loads are you placing on it? Why lithium? Those things are spendy. --Russ Yes sir. They are spendy. I'll explain why we chose them. I get 300 ah in 83 lbs. I can store it in any configuration. I should still be able to get 80% efficiency a...

I have an electrical question.
My wife and I decided to get a lithium ion battery for our house bank. We are going to keep the lead acid starter battery under the stairs for the etec. Now, because the two batteries are completely different in size and composition, I decided to keep them completely separate with the lithium bank n...
