Re: Considering Re-re-Power: Am I Crazy or What :|
I repowered with a 90 etec in 2005. I get 26 mph WOT and cruise is 20 mph at 4 miles per US gallon. Prop is an aluminum 13.75 x 13. I would not want any more weight at the stern as I also have a 26 gallon internal tank and the combination makes the stern squat lower.

Re: Practicing for Great Loop - Trent-Severn Cruising
I have two full enclosures. The sailboat enclosure is the standard Dowsar full enclosure with a transition piece so the boom clears. The powerboat enclosure has full standing headroom the full length of the cockpit with a two level windshield and an omnidirectional TV antenna. With my 90 ETEC I crui...

Re: Practicing for Great Loop - Trent-Severn Cruising
Minimum bridge clearance on the Trent-Severn is 22 feet. There are well over 50 bridges over the course of 240 miles. Not only do the bridges and locks make stepping and unstepping the mast impractical but there are miles of narrow bouyed channels that make it impossible to tack. The only sailboats ...

Cabin steps addition to Billy's AC mod
Last winter I was able to get Billy to make me a one of his AC mods. On a recent cruise in 90 degree weather, the 5000 BTU air condtioner worked like a charm. However my '96 :macx: had a single step that covered the original vent and auxiliary ballast valve. I glassed over the original vent years ag...

Re: Bimini Fabric
Try ebay if you are willing to be flexible on colors. Do a search on sunbrella. I use a minimum weight of 8.25 ounces per square yard.

Re: Mold and Mildew Control
I think that the problem is more pronounced (or more obvious) with the :macx: . The :macm: has fabric over the interior liner but the :macx: doesn't. There are actually two issues. At the start of winter layup, alternating freeze/thaw cycles cause condensation to form on the liner and run down into ...

Mold and Mildew Control
Since bought my :macx: in 1996, controlling mold and mildew in the cabin has been an ongoing issue. Salt crystal solutions need to be replaced from time to time and some of them drip so they need to be suspended over a sink or bucket. Heaters work ... if you have access to electric. I just received ...

Powerboat Enclosure
http://www.peggy-holcroft-originals.com/picts/Enclosure.jpg For the first 10 years or so that I owned my 1996 :macx: I used it primarily under sail. I added a full Dowsar enclosure in 2003. Now I find that I spend most of my time cruising the historic waterways in Ontario Canada. Since minimum brid...

Beam seas under power - board up or down?
I've had my :macx: since 1996. One of the issues I have not been able to figure out is whether it is better to have the centerboard up or down when running a pass with beam seas. Intuitively, I would think that board down would limit the pendulum effect. However, just as intuitively, board down migh...

Re: Can of worms; overpowering a Mac
I've been running a 90 ETEC on my '96 :macx: for three years now with no problems. I cruise at 20 and max out at 26, only 2 MPH faster than the top speed promised in the brochure which I couldn't even come close to with the previous Merc 50 4-stroke (17 MPH on a ggod day with the wind at my back). I...

Need Measurement
Hi: I'm hoping that someone with access to their :macx: can help me out. Spirit of the Wind is in Florida and I'm still in Canada until February. I'm making a main hatch cover (the horizontal one) out of Sunbrella with reinforcing arches out of sail batten material (I have 36 feet of batten). The id...

Looking for dry storage in central Florida
I'm planning to trailer my :macx: out of the land of snow and ice in December, put it in dry storage south of the snow line and take in the St. Pete boat show December 3 - 5. Then I'll come back to St. Petersburg March 1 and cruise the gulf coast for a month. If anyone knows of a secure storage lot ...

Re: No backstay on the 26M?? How about 26X?
I'm wondering if I could safely remove the backstay on my :macx: . It has a similar spreader arrangement. I have the Dowsar enclosure and am currently replacing my Sunbrella. The cutout in the bimini for the backstay was a chronic source of leaks. Without a backstay I wouldn't have to cut a hole in ...
