Re: Mystery Crack and Leak. Mac 26x
Ok, so yesterday was supposed to be a “set up the rig and prepare for the maiden voyage” day and it turned out to be a bit of a catastrophe. I had finished tuning new wires for the gps and compass etc last week replacing the motor tilt assembly And tilt tube this week and ran the motor for a bit the...

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Also, one other note. Most of the trailer pics here with axle over spring are shown without the boat so loading isn’t at play. The springs do settle once the boat weight is set down. Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
The spacer thing has a locator hole in the middle for the pin on the spring pack. It does appear to have been added as I can see some compression marks on the edges of the rectangular axle housing where the bolts were once installed the other way up. My only question is. If installed the other way u...

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Ok Springs arrived. Not 26” eye to eye as advertised but 25 1/4”. Same length as last set. But supposedly rated at 2,200 each. It now has approx 2” of travel. Without pulling it yet I don’t know how stiff but they did deflect approx 1 1-2” when loaded. Leafs are thicker than the 3500# pair. And it h...

Re: Mystery Crack and Leak. Mac 26x
Yeah the diagram did say that, I tried every angle of what it shows no luck but then a Stanley blade finally popped out the cover. I didn’t want to break it and make more work. I’m swapping the bulbs for LED. As for the podium leak/repair. The gel coat had some cracking around the base of the old cr...

Re: Mystery Crack and Leak. Mac 26x
Thanks Krum. All good points. As far as my leak down the mast crutch base into the pedestal and ultimately the rubber boot. I plan to run a 2ft piece of vinyl 1” ID tube from Ace Hardware and shove it on the end of the tube inside adding a longer bolt to hold it on. Water will just drain into the de...

Re: Mystery Crack and Leak. Mac 26x
Awesome leak prevention advice Starscream. Yep that’s the same crack leak. It seems like water runs down to the interior lining sump But can’t egress because it’s sealed to bottom and back of engine sump drain. So in colder climates it must freeze. So I did find that water was dribbling down the thr...

Mystery Crack and Leak. Mac 26x
Going through my newly acquired 26x and noticed an odd crack and apparent leak (when raining). It looks to be on the inner lining right below the engine sump. There are no cracks or holes in the sump so this is only on the Fiberglas lining. It appears to have bulged out/down. Could this be water tha...

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Thanks. Good detail. So today I jacked up the trailer to measure the spring eye to eye and it raised quite a lot before the shackles slackened. So I decided what the hull and went ahead and ordered another set. The new ones are 26” and 4200# pair instead of 25 1/4” @ 3500# pair. I also threw in a pa...

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Wyliec, do your axles run over or under with 2 1/2” clearance?

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Yeah Admiral there’s a tonne if room in there. A lot of arc to the springs. So it leaves me thinking my springs are too short? If anyone gets a chance could they measure from center to center of the front to upper back spring bolts?
I really appreciate the input.

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
So I measured the front eye to upper shackle eye and it’s 26 1/4”. The springs I bought are SW4B springs, I replaced existing with these to match according to part numbers... Looking at the Amazon listing it shows 25 1/4” so maybe that’s the issue? Really appreciate the chiming in. Been busy rebuild...

Also no water in ballast and no serious mods. Teleflex steering, 50hp tohatsu 2 stroke, Bimini, a couple anchors, dodger, no tanks filled.

Re: Trailer Springs and axle travel 26x
Sorry guys super busy here. Thanks for all the responses. So looking at those shots there definitely not enough travel. Me not sure what the spacer is I’ll take a look tomorrow but I believe that’s where the locator pin socket was for the spring pack. We noticed in those last posted pics the axle is...
