Re: New member intro
Many, many years ago I spent a lot of time and money getting a house ready to sell. With a large family and one income we had "deferred" a lot of maintenance items but with an eye toward a better selling price I put all (and maybe a little more) that I could afford into getting it back in...

Re: New member intro
Is there a good economic case for restoring a Mac? The problem as I see it is that even a perfect Mac-21 doesn't command a terribly high price. I could understand a quick-flip...buy for 1k, wash, sell for 2k, but putting any significant time and effort into a Mac seems more like a labor of love than...

Re: New member intro
Nice repair work! Do you keep your keel weight on the winch or drop it on the trailer for storage?

Re: Electrical Ideas
I completely rebuilt the electrical in my 1999 26X. I started with 2 AGM batteries and the replaced all the wires. Much of the lamp cord wire was in surprisingly good shape though. I used too big of a battery switch to start out, but it worked. Then a 12 position Blue Sea fuse panel to distribute th...

Re: Added second axle what do you think?
I think what you've done is a good idea, and allows for tuning for tongue weight. Just be advised that the OEM pole tongue, which is 3x3x3/16" HSS (structural tube) of unknown but probably low grade steel, has a nasty habit of rusting right at the most highly stressed location - where the two ...

Re: Wow! No wonder I was so confused
So many different set up’s and ways to load the sail, stop the sail from falling out, folding flaking etc. So I’m looking at getting the sliders attached to my original 1998 26x sail (bolt type) I think that what it’s called with a rope sewed in, that slides up mast channel. I see BWYs has these sl...

Re: Running lines to Cockpit and other ideas to make sailing easier
The mast gate is an alternative to a slug stop. A mast gate is a very doable solution to preventing the slugs from coming out when lowering the sail, but a mast gate will have to be open in order to reef, no different than removing the slug stop. The Mastgate from Tom at mastgate.com solves that pr...

Re: Running lines to Cockpit and other ideas to make sailing easier
Here is a better shot with the slugs down. But, as noted by Boat, the position of the slot makes a big difference. On the X model, at least on mine, the slot is just above the boom. The difference in sail positioned when reefed is not that big. If you just use a sail stop above the slot, you are onl...

Re: Running lines to Cockpit and other ideas to make sailing easier
I can hopefully help with some of your questions. I had a 1999 26X and it was set up for solo boating. Most important to me for that is all lines led to the cockpit, and a roller furler. The next would be an anchor system ready to deploy. I carried one on the bow and one in a homemade lazerette. As ...

Re: New member intro
Sorry I got everyone confused on this. I am referring to a 1984 MacGregor 21 about the oil canning and crack. The keel weight is on the trailer and the hull is back to normal. I am certain there is no damage to the hull. The cracks are in the inner liner and Boat posted a good explanation of why tha...

Re: New member intro
It is on a factory trailer. I really don't think the hull is damaged at all because of the flexibility of these boats. But the opposing point on the inside liner just happened to be at bend in the glass, so no flexibility. Thus the cracks on the inside but none outside. But these boats are not water...

Re: Keel-up refit 1977 Venture
I am taking on the same project and curious as to how yours is going now that it's been a couple years. I'm almost a year in and still slowly taking things apart. Any updates on your boat? Would like to see another one being saved.

Re: New member intro
The bunks on this trailer are parallel. Also, this only applies to boats with cast iron keels. The X, M, D, and S do not have this issue. The weight of the keel is hanging from the keel cable, which is directly over the aft end of the bunks, Resting the keel on the trailer will transfer the weight fr...
