Re: Centerboard will not go all the way up / retract into the hull - 26s
I dont have access to the boat off the trailer, but this is my CB resting on the trailer axle which I covered with rubber. I pull as hard as I can on the CB rope in the cabin, but i cant get it any higher than this. When I raise the CB from below, it goes up with ease almost all the way until the la...

Re: Centerboard will not go all the way up / retract into the hull - 26s
Ill have to try to get under the boat again and push the CB up by hand to see if it moves freely. When i replaced the CB line and pulleys, I also removed the metal stop bracket as there was no longer a metal wire grommet to use. This made the rope run a lot more freely. The picture from the previous...

Re: 26s Rudder Question
I'll just second the points others have made. Low speed steering sucks. The CB down helps, if your marina is deep enough. The rudder retracts only 120° or so, but is easy for me to lift using the uphaul. I might have modified the geometry a bit here and it helped. The boat has enourmous windage with...

Re: Centerboard will not go all the way up / retract into the hull - 26s
I also have a 26C and I also have this problem. Mine has access to the centerboard pin from the bottom of the boat though. I have also added a thicc layer of rubber matting to the upgraded centerboard catch bar on the trailer. The CB now rests permanently on this rubber mat, hitting every damn bounc...

Re: A $10 fix to prevent another $1,000 mistake
I have to do some reconstructive surgery on my rudder. It has some ramp/road rash from the PO. Seeing your CB repairs inspires me to fix mine. Mine is really fairly minor, but it's ugly and bothering me. I think I might just cut it off parallel to the waterline and glass the end shut. It would only ...

Re: A $10 fix to prevent another $1,000 mistake
Since you all seem to be forcing everyone to have a look at your undercarriages, well here's mine. I have a 26C with a swinging centerboard, but I have a similar issue that I addressed. I had a shop make some repairs to my stock steel trailer and I made a point to have them replace the cheap crossba...

Re: New Question 3 - Rudder handling
I have the same issue. Just consider it a "performance enhancement" because every time you turn the tiller, the boat gets lighter by the amount of fiberglass you remove from the lazarette top! :D I've considered a riser, but worried that the hinge would still articulate downward and scrape...

Re: Powerlines & Masts Don't Mix!
I recently used a laser rangefinder that my buddy owns to track the distance of some model rockets we were launching. It worked even for a tiny Estes rocket at altitude. Not easy to bullseye it with your naked eye let alone with a scope, but it was doable. Then you would have to do some trigonometry...

Re: 26 S raising mainsail.
First things I'd check is that you are raising the sail while the boat is pointed into the wind. Then make sure any outhaul, mainsheet, cunningham, or toping lift lines are slack then try raising it again.

Re: Your method of forestay attachment to the deck
I used that lever on my previous boat. I think I posted something about it here earlier, but you will need a new headstay. The levers are generally longer than turnbuckles. It made setup a breeze, but also meant that headstay adjustments were almost impossible thereafter. The levers only have a few ...

Re: I’m just lucky I guess
The PO installed baby stays on my 26C (but left the hauling line about 4ft too short!). They work great for raising and lowering the mast! Mine are reasonably slack too and sometimes miss the custom mast crutch in the back of the boat. It's extremely easy to nudge the mast to center it though. Mine ...

Re: One step forward….
It's a good question. If your rig has turnbuckles, 2" might be too much for them to handle especially if they are already at one extreme or another. I'll bet the stock chain plates could take up the gap. Hopefully the PO didn't have to buy all custom standing rigging due to that mast base. Just...

Re: Upgrading from 26D to 26M - is it worth it? Is it really an upgrade? What to expect?
I chose my 26C because it was the superior sailor of the C/M/X lineup and I have not been disappointed. She's no keelboat, but a very good sailing boat. That also means I either have to go sailing it solo or I bring non sailors with me and motor almost exclusively, thus the appeal of the M/X. I have...

Re: One step forward….
You mentioned your boat has a custom "mast block" underneath it. Do you know the reason behind this? If your mast is the stock length, then removing it might require new standing rigging since it's now "shorter." I was thinking this may have been done because of some damage to th...
