Re: Opinions about the Mac 19' Powersailer

We've had our :mac19: for about 1 1/2 years and love it. We are cruising it for relatively short periods ( 2-5 days) in preparation for some extended cruising on the Tennessee River when we retire next year. As with all boats, compromise is the order of the day - the :mac19: is fine for a couple but...

Re: Macgregor Sailor's Lifeboat Upgrade

Rich, Nothing I seem to do gets me in. My old password does not work, and I tried using the function if I forgot my password. I tried re-registering, but I'm told that my selected username is being used by someone else. I guess that would be me? Ray I have a similar problem. Couldn't login, request...

Re: Anyone Ever Sail Salton Sea?

Has anyone ever sailed (or even boated on) the Salton Sea in SE California. I am interrested in it as a possible destination - - - anyone been there - done that??? Rick :) :macm: I grew up in the Los Angeles area and we travelled around the state to fish at every opportunity. In the late 1050's and...

Re: Solar Panel Tickle charger

Still havent seen a reply to a solar charger hooked directly to a battery frying the battery. Will it?, Can it? I'll stick my neck out. I had a 5W panel directly connected to a 75AH battery for over 3 years with no problem. Just made sure to top up the water every month or so. I used the boat sever...

Re: Solar Panel Tickle charger

Richard, Do you just hook the solar panel to one of the batteries and the combiner will automatically do its thing and share the charge? Can you give a few details on how you hook yours up? I am already installing a new battery switch, Yandina Combiner, and 2 x Group 24 batteries over Christmas. I ...

Re: Solar Panel Tickle charger

Back on topic... If you have two batteries connected with a Yandina Battery Combiner will one single t R ickle charger work for both batteries through the combiner...or do you need to configure something special? Thanks, Jim I have been using a Yandina combiner with 2 batteries and a 10W solar pane...

I probably won't carry as much canvas as you but I am interested in how you did the pop-top.

First Mac 19 Sail

Finally after 9 months of frustration and delay, I got my Mac 19 in the water and sailed it! This is a really sweet sailing easy to handle boat - after deciding that the 19 ought to be a great fit for river cruising for Mary and I, we bought her last fall and have been upgrading the interior for com...

Re: Boat bottom and effect on speed

I think your answer lies in this sentence: So.... engine is screaming, not going very fast, rpms are off the charts, rev limiter is kicking in, water trail from prop area very white and not clean.... If your rpms are highter than you COULD get before, you probably have some slippage in your power tr...

Re: Keel Down in relationship to sail up

I cannot speak specifically to the Mac25 but I do sail a Catalina 22 with a swing keel and I believe your Mac's keel is similar in that it is actually outside the boat just not angled down when in the raised position. If so, you are not in much danger raising the mainsail with the keel up. The weigh...

I had some kinks in the CDI furler extrusion when I bought my 19 last fall. I stretched it out on my driveway (ashpault) in the sun for a few days and it straightened itself almost completely.

But what is the rudder made from as I want to drill some holes to fit pull-up lines? If it's hollow that may change how I go about it. My original rudders are pretty banged up but they appear to have a somewhat porous interior from what I can cee. My replacement rudders are solid HDPE. You could ha...

I'm only talking 1" here surely that will have little impact on a rudder that is probably 20" long! Why not increase your trailer wheel size? The Mac19 rudders are none too long anyway snd shortening them might seriously degrade performance. Another thought - use a drop receiver on your t...
