Thanks for years of support - now I'm selling my 26X

Hello - you have all been a fountain of sage advice for me prior to becoming a member, and while being a member. I can't thank you all enough. I've decided to sell my MacGregor 26X (Washington DC location). I placed an ad in the MacGregor Classified off of the home page if any of you are interested ...

Re: Safety review before sailing season?

My two contributions: 1. check/shake/replace your fire extinguishers aboard. 2. never push on something with a collapsible boat hook that is extended - I broke my ribs that way when it gave way and I taco'd myself over a side railing. knocked the wind out of me, and I'm lucky I didn't fall between ...

Re: Chesapeake Cruise and need some information

The stretch of water from the Chesapeake Bay up the Potomac River is locally called the "DC Commute". Let me know if you come up this way!

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

Thanks Russ - I think the bungie combined with moving on the water will give me a little "jiggle" to help delicately raise the valve handle. I'm most concerned about something falling into my prop, or bending the rod. I think I can also use the boat hook to leverage the angle better to go ...

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

This is my thinking - I can push it down fairly easily with a boat hook, but pulling it up maybe not without bending the rod. It is new and rigid. I'm thinking if I buy this then I can clip it to the boat on one end (so I don't clumsily drop it and it gets caught in the prop) and the other end I can...

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

My waterway is so congested due to shallow limitations on each side of the river and tons of speed boats with huge wakes, commercial vessels like water taxis and commercial tour boats...so being able to quickly lower and turn on my engine to maneuver out of dodge has saved me a few times.

Re: Bilge Heater and Golden rod questions - winter heat

I confirmed the type of golden rods that I have in my boat, and they are meant for boat hulls and other uses. So, I plugged them back in and am sharing the link. This is the type that I have: https://www.lockdown.com/products/moisture-control/dehumidifier-rods/golden-rod-dehumidifier-rod/725721.html...

JimmyT - I dunno. When I steer my X, the motor and rudders all move together as one set...Not sure how the M works, exactly.

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

Russ - that's not an issue with my MacX thankfully. I lift the motor when I sail due to drag, but it doesn't affect steering.

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

Oh no - anyone want to start a side business of retrieving old phones? I see so many phones go in - therefore I never bring mine above deck. I am not long enough to reach over, so I have to lift the seat, remove the baffle (installed to keep motor sounds low) and hope. It is my least favorite task. ...

Re: In need of a MacGregor mentor - update 2 at top

I'm so thankful to you all, and for your suggestions and links and patience. I have some thinking to do. I would likely implement a more mechanical solution to the valve on the transom like others have done. Keeping my boat in the water year round with an electric mechanism is probably not the way f...
