Re: Catalina in auction for final boats
"The U.S. sailboat market has been on a slow, steady decline since peaking in the early 1980s. Indeed. All boating sales is down, but sailboats took a hit more than power boats. See my post regarding this very subject, here: https://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=377481#p377481

Re: Everywhere I go ....
I’ve had similar conversations as well. Folks either have them or had them, and I’ve yet to hear a current owner not praise his, or a previous owner not regret some aspect of having sold it.

Re: A Shower Project in the 26X (Formerly titled “Proper wood to glass in”)
From my limited research of gel coat if you don’t use the wax for the final coat you have to use an air barrier for it to cure. I think? Absolutely right, Tony. Gel coat will remain sticky unless it is cured in the absence of air. Either cast it in a mold, or cover it snugly with saran wrap, or coa...

Rescue at Sea
I saw this on Facebook today and thought I'd share it. I would be EXTREMELY wary of any at-sea contact with another vessel, but this one turned out very well, and Alex is to be commended. Link (you need to be on FB and a member of the "MacGregor 26 Owners" page to view it): https://www.fac...

Re: Summer Trip
We're planning a Champlain trip at the end of June… Same deal for you! Let me know when you plan to pass by Rouses Point and hopefully we can work out a meet-up. As noted earlier, if you can let us know approximately when you’ll be passing Rouses Point we may be able to arrange to be at our lake ho...

Re: Summer Trip
Kmclemore how much notice do you need to meet up? We have to check for when the Chambly Canal opens, but by the 2nd or 3rd week of Jun sometime. I will let you know by May 1st. May 1st should be plenty of time. We have a lot of stuff scheduled this summer, but if we know approximately when you’ll b...

I’m glad you’re on the mend and your prognosis is good! I hope I don’t need your counsel, but it’s entirely possible I may be facing that at some point - seems like after a certain age most of us guys get some level of diagnosis in that regard. I hope your worries are now completely behind you on th...

Re: Farewell, tight lines.
I suspect I’m about 10 years behind you in terms of hanging up the sailing gloves! I wish you all the best, and I thank you for all the wonderful contributions you’ve made to the forum over the many years. God bless both you and your family.

Re: Settee cushions for MacGregor 25
I don't know how they are laid out for a 25, as I have a 26X, but I believe all of the boats had a bottom and a back cushion, so the sleeping space arrangement will likely contain a combination of both. My real concern is that you're planning to sleep on vinyl. It's likely to be very hot and sweaty ...

Re: The MacGregor "Road-to-Ownership" Tour
Depending on when you get past upstate NY, you are certainly welcome to stop by and see ours - we are in Rouses Point, near the Canadian border. We will be pulling the Mac out of the barn and popping it into the water in late May/early June.

Re: Mac19 - Drain in Motor Well?
I had thought there was a drain from the factory. Having said that, I did find this photo of the aft cabin showing a drain on a Mac 19. It doesn't look factory, so perhaps it was added by the owner? It's from here: https://mac19p.wordpress.com/macgregor-19-modifications/ https://mac19p.wordpress.com...

Sci-Fi novel "Old Mens War" that postulates that when you hit 70, you're mental processes are transfered into a clone of yourself, age 20. Green tinge to skin. 8) Heck, I *still* think I’m 20, and I turn 70 in three weeks… my body is just trying to keep up! This is me 5 days ago… still cl...
