I understand the reason for going to trawler mode, but I don’t think I’d sell the sailing bits. When you ultimately do go to sell the boat - which eventually someone will have to do - you will have reduced its value by far more than $2500. And for the new owner the price of replacing all that would ...

Wrap the end of the rope with one or two turns of electrical tape. Cut the rope with a very sharp knife or razor blade in the middle of the taped section. Yes, I'd imagine that would work quite well. That's what we used to use at Lotus Cars to install windscreens, which in that car were a structural element as well.

The Chinese have been doing this for years. They used to make one that was a dead copy of the Mac, complete with black stripes.
