Re: Used 26X mast

We have the 26M masts available, $1,900 or carbon fiber masts at $2,990... The carbon mast will weigh 60% of aluminum mast and the top portion is 30% of aluminum. It is much easier to raise, feeling about half of the force. Your boat will sail much more upright and faster with less weight aloft. Mik...

Re: Macgregor 65/70 Discussion

Ohh, nice. But, I don't know what any of that means. I can click the button on the cell phone. Have pity on me, make it easy and you'll get crazy photos. Some of this you won't have seen and some of those rumors! A carbon fiber mast so light I can pick up one end of. And for the Tattoo 22, yes, it's...

Re: Macgregor 65/70 Discussion

Most of the water ballast transfer will be "dump before tacking". Pump will be used very little other than to pump out the entire ballast when not needed. The water ballast will be used when needed only. Spinnaker reaching or upwind in a breeze, otherwise no water ballast. My guess is on a cruise or...

Re: Macgregor 65/70 Discussion

I hope that means we will have a spot for the M65 now M70 on this forum. I will offer contributions from time to time, progress as it were. Epoxy and knit FG with carbon reinforcements in some high load areas such as keel foundation. The masts, 2, are carbon fiber, 265hp Yanmar to drive the boat and...

Re: carbon fiber mast

Very good! Your thinking is exactly on my target. Only thing is the produced flanges cost too much. Carbon fiber is not really that costly because you use so little of it. 22 lb mast, 60% is carbon fiber equals 13 lbs of carbon fiber. The foam core will actually cost more than the raw carbon fiber! ...

Re: Light dual axle?

Totally right on that double engine failure, see the first trans-Atlantic flight. Long distance tow with double flat chance. By the way; a trailer flat is much better than a rear tire flat on your car. Rear tire blowout on your car and there can be a quick lane change. Just saying, I still prefer si...

Re: carbon fiber mast

Yes and no on the performance diff. Much improvement on light displacement boats, less on cruisers. But, fact remains, same righting moment as a large man (300 lb fellow) on high side. You will notice change in heel. I wouln't pay $3,000 for that on my M. But I would pay on my V23 which I use as a r...

Re: carbon fiber mast

Yes, that is the key to production. Two part mast w sleeve. Shipping would b available for $100, not $500 or much more. The plan is foam core like aircraft wings, carbon fiber skin. The load bearing carbon will be uni-directional wrapped with diagonal with most of the fiber on sides of the mast. I c...

carbon fiber mast

I'm considering making carbon fiber masts for the MacGregors. Thinking about this for some time, ever since it was decided to add 300 lbs of fixed ballast to the design if the M. The righting moment of the 300 lbs in bottom of boat and 20 lb savings with carbon fiber mast at 20 ft above waterline is...

Re: Electric Propulsion for the Kera Jane....

I tried the Torquedo 1003 on my Venture 23. Iv'e been using the Honda 2 hp for years and get about 5 mph at full power, the Torqeedo gets same speed! Your M or X will get 4.5 mph. The only problem is short run time at full power, only 20- 30 min. This with the supplied Lith battery. I tried this for...

Thanks Bob. Hi all. Bob is bringing his 26D down to us from Lancaster and we'll sand and buff the exterior like new for the loan. So, don't need any other boats. Quick acting website!
