Hyde 110 on a 26S - pictures
I bought a Hyde 110 jib and Schaefer Snapfurl 500 furler from Judy B. who advertises and contributes here so I wanted to post some pictures. There was a previous post here where Grady showed some of the fast classic Macs and it seems you often see these with large (Genoa) deck sweeping hank on jibs....

Re: First time sailing--riding out squall on Lake Havasu
The zebra mussel cant live in salt water.. no problem there. The full decontam.. hot spray the boat in all suspect areas (a buddy had this done on his Seaward going into Oregon possibly because he had Arizona plates and the boat came out of Havasu). If water ballast, add filling the ballast tank wit...

Re: First time sailing--riding out squall on Lake Havasu
Ive "heard" (check yourself to be sure) that Powell no longer has zebra inspections since Powell now has the mussels. So now all the lakes on the Colorado river (Havasu, Mohave, Mead, Powell) are all pretty easy to go between with a water ballast boat - as they all have the zebra mussel. H...

Re: First time sailing--riding out squall on Lake Havasu
I guess the event at Havasu has been downsized? I missed it again I guess - February huh? what is the weather like then? Down size is not such a bad thing.. this is the cove where we are camping tomorrow night. The picture is Feb 2012 and that cove was just packed with sailboats. As you know in S. ...

Re: First time sailing--riding out squall on Lake Havasu
A group of sailboats are camping at Steamboat cove (Lake Havasu) tomorrow (Wed) night https://www.google.com/maps/place/Steamboat+Cove,+Arizona+86406/@34.3980815,-114.2588218,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80d18c6465cc6b8f:0xdf6709a1d3edc048 Your anchor may be cought on a snag underwater. Re: First time sailing--riding out squall on Lake Havasu
Im in Lake Havasu now for the winter, my 26S in in a slip in the marina. November and Feb are good months for sailing here.. watch out for tomorrow however.. powerful winds forcast. Dec and Jan still have good sailing days, just have to pick the best days. Do you live here (Havasu)? There is a prett...

Re: wire size from motor to batteries
Just another thing somewhat interesting since you have a 1000 watt generator. You can charge a healthy lead acid battery at 0.2 times its capacity in buik charging. Ie, if you have 200 amp hour of battery, you could charge this in bulk with 40 amps. You can buy AC to DC chargers that will charge at ...

Re: wire size from motor to batteries
starter says 500W, I measure about 35 amps, use this to scale at your own risk of course. Here is a number comparison of 4 gauge vs. 6 gauge. For this example, let’s say your outboard starter uses 60 amps (complete guess based on my 9.8 hp using 35 amps but its what I will use for this example). Eit...

Re: wire size from motor to batteries
Sumner is right about sizing the wire for the starting current. On my Nissan 9.8, there is a sticker on the outboard starter motor that says 0.5KW i.e., 500 watt. If you assume 12 volts and use ohms law, this gives a current of 500/12 = 41.6 amps I have measured the starting current on this outboard...

Re: Help - slighly discouraged - setting up rig on 26x - fai
Read Tomfoolerys post in detai.. that is a very dangerous setup. FYI, the furler manufactures normally say to use your own headstay hardware (I guess gets rid of liability risk) so CDI may not sell what you need. I used a place Sumner had recomended a long time ago for that sort of hardware and was ...

Re: Help! Sliding Hatch flew off while trailering!
Good that you have some options on the hatch. I like that area around Elevenmile but agree that the same rocky formations that make the lake interesting also create some underwater hazards. You just have to be careful anytime you are about 50 foot from shore. I know where most of the rock are (my sw...

Re: Help! Sliding Hatch flew off while trailering!
Elevenmile.. Aha! I was up there last weekend and saw your boat in the parking lot, looked like a nice setup! Wife and I were up there as its the peak of a particularly good wild flower season (I guess no more off topic that talking about racoon stripes. lol) edit (to compete with racoon stripes on ...

Re: Help! Sliding Hatch flew off while trailering!
I have not been to this place for some years but.. If you are thinking of doing that repair yourself, this might be a place to at least call: http://www.plasticareinc.com/ (Denver, CO) I don’t know about now but it used to be a family deal where you could go in and get advice and they would have all...

Re: Furler Problems
Thanks Kadet.. you are correct. I guess I can live with messy lookin.. lol The main difference between the Schaefer and the CDI furlers is the halyard. The CDI has an internal halyard and the Schaefer has an external halyard. The Schaefer setup is more similar to the hank on jib setup that I’m used ...

Re: Furler Problems
The shackle and eye setup on the allows for the same freedom of motion offered by a toggle. Thus no need for a toggle at the top of the forestay. Im just dealing with a furler for the first time in many years but I also completely agree with this. The purpose of the toggle is to allow the cable to ...
