Re: Roger MacGregor needs u!
Wasn't the boat that capsized in San Diego w/the loss of 2 lives a 26D? Could capsize tests be part of an ongoing legal situation? I hope our legal system hasn't gone there, but ....

Re: Bahia Honda vs. Pennecamp
I don't drink, but many of my shipmates have over the years. Never been an issue. Just be discreet. Mainly intended to keep day visitors (or cruisers) from getting rowdy, I think, but I have never seen anyone accosted while having a drink in their cockpit. Probably a good idea to use one of those in...

Re: Bahia Honda vs. Pennecamp
That is correct. The Bahia Honda bridge has a maximum vertical clearance of a bit over 20' (not looking at the chart). You need to sail east oceanside from the Park marina several miles to Moser Cut under the Seven-Mile Bridge in order to get to the Bay without dropping the stick. But with a mast ra...

Re: Experience with Sails from Sailstore
Dirk at National Sail Supply (Rolly Tasker Florida) is terrific to work with. In my experience, his sails are top notch, reasonably priced, and delivery is timely. He does what he says he is going to do when he says he is going to do it, is very knowledgeable, answers questions, and gets right back ...

Re: Winter Boat Camping
Last January, as per my usual, I had driven cross country to escape Montana's winter by sailing in balmy Florida with a good friend. I was actually towing my Sanibel 18 rather than Cacafuego. I won't detail the trip across other than to briefly mention roadside trailer taillight repairs in -9 degree...

Re: Broken Pulpit
My 2001X doesn't have an access panel like my 96X did, because all of the nylocks for the pulpit and cleats are visible (take a flashlight) and "reachable" on the later model without removing anything. Well, that is, if you are a non-claustrophobic, skinny contortionist. Unfortunately, I'm...

Re: outboard support bracket
Look up "Motoring Support Bracket" in Mods by Moe for 26X. Simple solution. Is that what you are looking for? Most motor manufacturers recommend not using the flip down lever for trailering support. CYA? Or not?

Re: Replacing Detmar Steering Cable
R Rae The rotary unit is more compact, but I'm not certain whether the cable is the same nominal length or not, as it wraps around the rotary drive unit while the other type attaches to the rack. I would certainly ask an expert like Cheryl (bwygirl) or Todd at Bluewater Yachts. They are terrific in ...

Re: Replacing Detmar Steering Cable
R Rae I installed the Uflex Planetary helm and cable on a 1996 Mac X as a replacement for the ROTARY helm unit that was standard on the early Mac X. It took a little modification of the pedestal, but not much. I now have a 2000 X that has the factory Detmar rack-and-pinion steering. I'll probably re...

437 feet? Adams class? I served as a young division officer on the Jolly Charlie from 1964-1967. You are correct- we did over 33 in full power trials w/ all 4 boilers on the line. She hummed like a bowstring. And she was beautiful.

Re: Hull of a day
Allan I had the same issue. I have claustrophobia, and could not shove my (68 year old) arms and shoulders up there into a position to allow me to install the under deck fasteners for a bow roller without freaking out. I had a 1996 26x before, and it was easy to do through the removable access plate...

Thanks, Duane. Somehow I couldn't manage to find anything. Just like around home. Sorry to clutter up the board. Hope to run into you one of these trips.

Re: WHY IS THE MAC DISRESPECTED AMONG SAILORS
I have owned and enjoyed a lot of snobby and not so snobby sailboats: three Bristols, a Cape Dory, three O'Days, a Kent Ranger 26, a Marsh Hen, a Dovekie ........ you get the point. As others have already said, I am way past worrying about what others think. For several years in the late 80's, I cru...

Barn pests over the winter?
Lots of mice in Montana. Three cats, but we still need traps in the house. I also use peanut butter. Some years back, they destroyed the upholstery in a camper and ate the wires in a van. I now use mothballs in bowls throughout the inside all of the vehicles and boats I store for the winter. So far ...
