Re: Any long term answers for faded black stripes?
Re: Any long term answers for faded black stripes? Postby AWKIII on Thu Jul 31, 2008 5:58 am The black striping along the coach roof is definitely an inherent problem with both the 26x and 26m. The problem is with the quantity and quality of the gelcoat the factory uses when the boat is built. Simpl...

Thanks for the suggestions. It seems that there is no easy cure to the problem.

Mac 26M, Cleaning oxidized black trim?
The black trim on my 26M has apparently oxidized over the past several years and has a dull, partially grayish appearance. I have tried cleaning it with a boat cleaner, and also with some products obtained from an auto supply dealer. They help, but the results don't seem to last more than a few mont...

Thanks to all for the helpful information. I will try several of the suggestions offered. To explain a little more clearly why I asked the question, in our sailing area (Galveston Bay, near Kemah, TX) when we take our boats out into the bay we motor out for some distance in a marked channel, because...

I have the pulleys on my rudders. Makes it much quicker and easier IMHO. A future project is to put a 2:1 on my dagger board. But even so I also experience the slight loss of control during the transition. I just ensure I have sea room when I make the transition and don't worry about it. Jim Is the...

Transition to planing mode and back
I suspect most of us have motored our Macs on a plane (or semi-plane) with rudders and daggerboard (or centerboard), retracted and pulled up. With the M, I normally pull the rudders up with the motor in the water in a centered position and running at low rpm's, then raise the daggerboard, then push ...

Thread Subject: I for one hope the Mac wont sink, since that's one of the safety reasons Im comfortable with the Mac. In addition, my extra PFDs, and the cushions are aboard when sailing with the thoughts of further flotation protection. The factory video shows the flooded Mac afloat without an eng...

Sunk?
Regarding a second meaning of the word, does anyone know of a Mac 26 (M or X) actually sinking? I'm aware that the floatation is effective to keep it afloat under most conditions, but are there instances in which heavy seas or accidents have resulted in sufficient damage to one of the boats such tha...

Re: Buying a new Mac
[quote="Pete"]I am ordering a Mac from Scotts Yachts here in wilmington and wanted to open a discussion about options. The basic options I think I will go with are 26M blue with trailer (I will be keeping the boat on the trailer) Jib Cruising Spinnaker Sunshade Swim ladder All lines led af...

I often sail single-handed, and I agree with nearly all of the previous comments. - I have lines led aft, autopilot, GPS/chartreader, sail slugs, etc., and they all help. I also think that a bimini or other form of sun protection is more important for single-handed sailing in hot sunny weather, beca...

Re: Rigging Failure - Demasted under sail
[quote="dannyboy"] Quite odd that it happened just now as this coming weekend I was planning on taping the clevis pin O rings that hide under my shroud covers. So......I advise everyone to do just that without delay. I found the culprit O-ring on the top of the starboard rub-rail. Apparent...

My view on an AIS receiver for a Mac: Really depends where you sail and what kind of traffic you're getting, but I'd say just stay away from any AIS transmitting traffic altogether. I sail the Houston channel at night often nowadays (almost every night), where traffic of large ships, barges and tug...
