Re: Length: Whaddya Think?

I was enamored with the 28' KIWI you had Art. It had adequate berth length. a place for dressing with a small hanging locker. Fits in the driveway, but mostly I believe it had seaworthiness, and speed. Bulb keel, on a lifting dagger-board, and a bowsprit with lots of sail if you needed it. The only ...

Re: If not a MacGregor

Lake racing is not as scary as ocean racing, and there are three ways of laying her over. :) The first is kind of fun, and happens when you've plenty of speed, probably on a reach, and you just wash your windows a bit without getting the sails wet. You see 45 degrees on the screamometer. As soon as ...

Re: V bottom degree.

This is an interesting question Terry I've noticed the current trend in racing hulls seems to be rounder even up near the bow, with a wide stern, plumb bow, and a sharp V in the plan i.e. overhead view. I wish that I knew whether this compromises comfort for speed? Nearly everyone seems to favor bul...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

I don't think the Freedom 33 will be much like my M except for the trailering, and that will require a decent 8 cylinder. It requires more than three times the water ballast at the waterline to gain the same stability you get just 3-4 feet lower. You just can't do that with water ballast and sail in...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

I haven't heard anything from Art recently. My only new thought was after visiting a new Hunter Edge at the Denver Boat Show earlier this month, I wondered what would happen if a tall, almost "Pilothouse" design were added kind of like the 250 Freedom? The Edge is certainly more Beamy on the stern, ...

Re: Issues with disconnecting engine from steering arm

Gee! since no one else has responded, I guess that I will. I had lots of problems with cable and outboard interference, and there is no one answer as each motor has a different mount. Overall the best results i've had were from 1. getting a quick disconnect linkage kit from Cabela's, and 2. getting ...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Hi Jim. We will definitely have to figure a way to show the boat so folks can kick the tires. I am not sure the boat show circuit is the way to go anymore. They seem to be a dying breed. Exhibition costs continue to increase while attendance drops year each year. There doesn't seem to be an end to ...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Once again! Boy, some cool new ideas from Duane, and Don. Here's a final shot from me. There are so many variables that it is difficult to get much further without a mock-up. I have tried to allow 27" for booths, based on sitting at the local cafe where they probably thought i was nuts :? The smalle...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Hi guys! This is really starting to come along and the input is fantastic. If I was looking to purchase this boat there are few things I would like to see. One would be a small seat next to the forward vee-berth. It provides a little more room in the forward cabin plus it allows a great place to si...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Hi Guys Duanne, Here's the address for the line drawing or just do a google image search "Hobie 33". Drat! I have client meetings tomorrow. This is way more fun. It seems like the aft berth can run square to the axis, as Art suggested. Yes, ventilation and light are important. Perhaps a Benete...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Hi Don It looks to me like the aft berth needs to be like two sleeping tubes, with no or little room underneath the cockpit. This requires two separate access doors. I found a line drawing of the 33, and tried to line up the galley table on it end to end. I.E. the oval table exactly fits the keel tr...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Here's a new drawing based on what I've learned about the Hobie 33. Sorry Duane, I didn't see your new post until just now. Dimensions are only approximate. Think of these as quick sketches (not for construction). http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/dogear1/quasimac3.jpg OOPs! I forgot the door on ...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

I drew the table along the axis of the keel well, because i assume it rises afoot or two above the bilge? As Duane observed, the table is awkward. I too kind of like other options? Maybe the table can be set perpendicular to the wall like the post 2004 M design. Would that force someone to step over...

Re: A New 33' Quasi Mac?

Ok here's another possibility: I like the idea of having a separate draining locker near the stern for a small generator, but everything else is movable for me.

Thanks Ralph, for giving us something to work with.
