Re: Jeff S from Phillip down-under

Jeff. 1. the back wire: there is a plate on it, plus 2x pulley's. We worked out the plate would not work so used the pulleys. Did you ever use the plate to secure this wire? (not working well for us when we attached the plate- too much tension on the mast, so went back to using just the pulleys) 2....

That l-shaped bracket is for the Dickinson Sea-b-q barbeque- it slides onto that bracket and then the clips in place to hold it. If you don't use the barbeque you can get rid of that bracket (send it with the barbeque I imagine).

The rear axles are the ones with the brakes. That is correct, not sure why the line is tight, unless they moved things when they took the axles off/on. It may be as simple as moving the T-fitting that splits the hyd lines to each side. I kept the name "Blue Moon" from the PO to me (I was s...

Re: Finally in my Yard...all the way from the US-of-A

Phillip, Wow! I haven't been on this board in awhile, mainly due to my work (USMC) and the fact I no longer have a boat :( but it was a shock to get back on today and see the Blue Moon. As the PO I hope you like her. I should be able to answer the questions you asked, although many already have answ...

Lots of suggestions in that thread. I just need to sort out the most practical. Do you suggest using a power washer to remove most of the old coating before applying a new coating? The best way is to get a large drop cloth, tow the trailer and boat over the drop cloth. Put some weight on the sides ...

The outboard represents $4-9K of the boat's value depending on age. Get the best one you can afford. All others things equal you want reliability. Open the motor cowl and look for a carb. Reject any boat you find them on. I think the outboard represents more like $1-9k (maybe even 0) depending on t...

I believe that the diesel engine was first developed to run on coal dust. No time to research it now, off to work. "Diesel intended the engine to use a variety of fuels including coal dust and peanut oil. He demonstrated it at the 1900 Exposition Universelle (World's Fair) using peanut oil"

I moored an X for over a year on a creek with a lot of chop (waterskiers, boat ramp on the creek, etc.) Just had excellent bumpers on the dockside. Not a single problem. It doesn't require any upgrades, just proper tension on all the rigging. Not saying upgrades wouldn't be nice, just that they aren...

Diesel engines were originally designed to use vegetable oils. There are a lot of potentials with diesel engines. I do my best to follow all of my owner's manual recommendations so that I get the 350,000 miles listed in the manual as the mean life of the engine. I have seen souped up Diesel's beat s...

Diesel wins hands down in Every catagory besides the added initial cost. Diesel wins all these categories: More expensive intial cost. Heavier, and higher pounds per horsepower as well. Higher maintenance cost. Noisier. Dirtier. As long as you're willing to put up with all the above, you can get be...

I think you are right Rich, but it would be worth a call to clarify if you plan on going there, or are considering a diesel outboard purchase.

The motor in the opening post was sold in Europe initially. It may not be able to be purchased and legally used in the US. This would require some research on the part of whomever was interested in purchasing this motor.

2-Stroke Engines in California

Because it is a common point of confusion in California and blanket statements get made that are incorrect or people infer things from statements that are not true. Restrictions are based on emission level, not engine type. Older 2-strokes (read non-direct injection) are not sold in CA NEW. Pre-2001...

I remember in those days congratulating myself for not buying the Merc, though I've had second thoughts since. Second thoughts on the Tohatsu!? Come on Chip! It is the motor that will not quit. I thought mine finally did after it would die at high RPM under load, turns out the impeller was over 3 y...

I had my boat in the water for over a year, longest stretch was 8 months. Bottom painted by dealer intially, redone by myself. I don't think there is a barrier coat. 8 months - no blisters. The worst problem was growth on the transducer (need xducer bottom paint) and some around the CB. I had some s...
