I transported one across Florida using the Mac trailer with a vertical 2X4 support strapped to the ladder. The support was used to elevate the forward portion of the mast so it was above the vehicle. The aft portion of the mast only extended past the rear of the trailer a foot or two.

26X mast

I have a "new" undrilled mast in Stuart, Florida that is for sale.

Ordered a new one but found a replacement while waiting.

Unfortunately it is a long haul from Alabama.

I have a Kenyon single burner propane stove that came with my used X in the attic. It is virtually new. If anyone is interested send me a PM. First time I tried it I didn't get the canister in right and heard a brief hiss. Opened and reinserted the cannister. When I lit it a nice puff and brief flam...

Tohatsu TLDI Owners Beware

You know that small stream of water that you check to verify the water pump is ok and coolant is circulating. The one that gets plugged once in awhile particularly if you operate in salt water? The same one that you use a piece of wire to clear the obstruction and there is no damage to the engine. U...

I have a new undrilled mast and it appears I may not use it. Unfortunately I live in Florida. For the mast, the best approach is to find the closest dealer and have them include a 26X mast on their next shipment of a new 26M. I was lucky and the receiving dealer didn't charge freight so the whole th...

26X Centerboard pads to reduce trunk/CB clearance

On my 26X the clearance between the CB and the trunk is almost 1/2 inch (1/4 per side if centered). With the boat raised on a lift the lateral movement near the tip is significant. Some don't like this huge clearance because the board bangs around when at anchor keeping light sleepers awake. I don't...

Thanks for the replies. Fortunately I didn't loose the centerboard bracket. Still not sure how you secured the cable to the 1/4 inch bolt. I scrounged around my spare parts bucket and found a sheet metal shackle. Put it in a vise and squeezed down the ends but left a loop .large enough to accomodate...

I tend to make things more difficult than necessary but can't help it. The main problem with the Mac setup is that the mast has the large opening in the slot to accomodate a rope luff. The position of this opening complicates reefing. In addition, if you leave the main on the boom the bulk of the sa...

Lost Centerboard Cable Parts

While dropping the centerboard on my 1997 26X, the centerboard apparently became wedged against a bunk board on the boat lift and the cable broke; some parts went overboard. All that is left of the lifting hardware is a cable which is broken inside the loop and a corroded flat head machine screw goi...

How do you guys trim your genoas on a reach. I hang the main out, and trim it in until it stops luffing, but how about the genoa? I always trim it close? This is what I do: On a close reach you trim similar to beating but ease off the spreader a bit, ease the sheet until the leeward starts to luff ...

I am also making plans to add weight to the centerboard. Lead shot and epoxy seem to be the easiest and safest for small weight additions. Precision Reloading at http://www.precisionreloading.com/shot.htm will send 25 pounds to your door for $33 which includes shipping. Any infor on what shot size w...

If you want extra strength in the spreaders use wood. In my opinion PVC is not a good material for this application.

A few years ago I became an "expert" on blisters. I bought a derelict Catalina 22 and was redoing it for racing. To my amazement I found 54 blisters. I distinctly remember each one. Two of them were so deep I ground completely through the hull. Quite a surprise to find yourself wondering w...

I agree with ALX357.

In my opinion you should replace bent spreaders before you go out again.

A thin walled aluminum tube, like a spreader, can take a significant compressive load if it stays in column (straight). Once it goes out of column its load carrying ability is compromised.
