Re: Recommended ablative Coat
Hi pitchpolehobie, Our boat was the factory gel coat. We wanted to slip it (fresh water marina) so I did 4 layers of Interlux epoxy barrier coat sanding and alternated between grey and white. Use a cheap orbital sander, that was a lot of work. Then 2 or 3 coats of VC17 blue. Since then a quick coat ...

Re: 26M front stay too short to rig to spec?
boats should have a little weather helm but only a small amount The M is meant to sail at about 30 degrees or slightly more fully powered up Im not really sure what you are trying to accomplish by having the boat round up and such low wind speeds Rather than try and emulate the poor setup on those ...

Re: 26M - Racing - Lay lines
Throw everything, including the cushions, cooler and junk out of the boat. :D I have see the serious racers pile everything not needed out on the dock, cover with tarps and don't let their crew bring anything aboard. Also practice with crew in the parking lot getting them in position calling out ta...

26M front stay too short to rig to spec?
We have a 2005 26M we purchased fall of 07. After sailing a few other boats most recently, Hake RK26, Hunter 28, Tartan 34, which all have some weather helm, I would like a little bit of it in our boat and have worked on my rigging adjustments again to increasing rake but there seemed to be no notic...

Re: How straight is your mast?
Check your spreader height then retension your shrouds. Bob Good call Bob, the dimension from the top attachment point to the center of the spreader is supposed to be 12'. One side was off buy 3 inches. I replaced the upper shrouds last year. They were nicked up from binding on the adjusters when r...

Re: How straight is your mast?
Mine has been binding also. When the sail was down or when raising the mast it had a tendency to swing to starboard.
After these latest adjustments it behaves much better. Really worth the effort.
Thanks,
Wally

How straight is your mast?
After setting the rake and adjusting the shrouds I sighted up the mast and it appeared to be bending to port. Adjusting the shrouds I seemed to have gotten most of the bend out but the mast track still appears to be wavy. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk58/sloop26/2012-05-10_19-54-27_766.jpg Sh...

Jib block shackle binding?
Hello, What do people do with their jib block after insalling a CDI ll furler? The pully runs free but the block itself seems to be pinched against the mast buy the upper shrouds. No matter what I do it doesn't swivel. The set up is exactly like the picture in the manual, except with the furler. Dif...

Re: Pictures taken from your MacGregor
Henry, Nice photo Henry, you have a beautiful boat. I have been able to make it up to Stockton a couple of times with a friend on his Tartan 34. Still need have not had my :macm: up Bayfield yet. Need a little more experience and equipment. I miss seeing those red sails on Minnetonka, don't miss the...

Re: What Is Up With The Gate Latches On Our Macs?
Sorry if I am repeating a previous post. I didn't read through all 6 pages, but this one is too good to pass up. I love that latch. Yes, one thing I've found after owning a sailboat awhile is keep it simple. The reason its that way is it won't fail, need maintenance, replacement, or adjustment. Ther...

Re: Helm balance
the M has an asymmetrical hull, particularly noticeable in the lower bow area. It is more convex on one side than the other, and IIRC, it might even be slightly concave. I've noticed it on several M's, so it's in the mould. -Brian. I don't know Brian, not saying your wrong but I would think all the...

Re: Helm balance
Good sailor to notice what you picked up, you are getting good, ready to race. Mike Thanks for the vote of confidence Mike. I've had the boat 4 years, the first 2 we trailered and didn't get out enough, the last 2 have been in a marina. We have been out a more this year than ever but I feel my lear...
