Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

I pm’d you Starscream. I’m working, slowly, on the topsides today. It’s too hot to really get at it. But I washed the top this morning and am working on cleaning up the black using Starbrite Cleaner Wax by hand. https://i.imgur.com/jO17L6w.jpg https://i.imgur.com/g5uo6qU.jpg I’ve only done a little ...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

Oh yeah. I’ve seen some miracles using Finesse It II. I’m not sure mine is bad enough to warrant it though. We’ll find out in about a month. :D

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

Last minute off day so I’m working on the boat’s oxidation issues: https://i.imgur.com/hMz3HBu.jpg First I cleaned the hull with Starbrite hull cleaner, then did some spot cleaning with Barkeeper’s Friend. https://i.imgur.com/PROnjl0.jpg I set up a work area with a shade tent and fan. I’m using 3M C...

Re: Boats, Pools and Home Furnishings: How the Lockdown Transformed Our Spending Habits

Wow. That’s quite beautiful and peaceful. When I went out Monday it wasn’t as bad but we still chose not to beach on the island we were at as it was too crowded. The authorities here are asking boats to maintain a 25 foot separation when beaching as part of social distancing. Some people complied, s...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

I should dye the sails black and add some red blood stains. That is one heck of a picture. Speaking of awkward boat names, my mother bought a com-pac 16 years ago and named it meno-paws. I get it. Older lady sailing with her dog. But I felt awkward as hull when I was single handing that boat and peo...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

Yeah. That’s the worst spot. I count 17 individual holes in the sail overall but most are small. It will be ugly as all get out but we’re gonna try taping them up for now until I can order a new sail.

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

BOAT, I very much appreciate the insight on the foot. Thanks! That helps more than you know. I have sailed two boats named "Wind Song" and three others with the word "Wind" in the name all with tragic results. I have a bad taste in my mouth on that one. Changing the names made all the difference. 5 ...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

Today was a day I’ve been semi dreading. Time to see how bad the sails really are. So we pulled them out. The main is definitely shot: https://i.imgur.com/pkNo5ak.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5zI9zgQ.jpg There are several places like that where the rats chewed holes. I didn’t take pictures of the jib bec...

Re: Boats, Pools and Home Furnishings: How the Lockdown Transformed Our Spending Habits

I went to 4 ramps this past weekend before I found one that wasn’t overcrowded (by paying at a marina instead of using a public launch). I’m not used to seeing that sort of traffic at the ramps unless it’s a holiday. It was so bad at one they had a cop there turning people away and directing traffic...

Re: Ideas for trailer bunks

When I built my bunks earlier this year I did it exactly as Tomfoolery describes. His tip on keeping the holes tight is spot on. The first bunk I made I made my holes a bit too big and the carriage bolts did spin. Wasn’t a big deal, I just wedged them with a screwdriver until the nuts were tight eno...

Russ, I’ve always been a big dog person. She came with the significant other. But I’ll admit she’s growing on me.

Jimmy it was good. Real good to be back out. We cruised, we anchored, we played and swam. Gotta do more of that. It was some great father/son time.

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

My son and I had a “boat” day today and while it was mostly about fun I did get some minor work done. But first the fun: https://i.imgur.com/m7w6SxU.jpg That’s my son discovering how much fun it is to just jump off the boat. https://i.imgur.com/DXCALfW.jpg That’s me and the dog. She seems to like th...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

I’m replacing the snaps on my bimini this morning while I drink my coffee. It’s a small project but needed to be done. I found the snaps I’d bought years ago, so no cash outlay today. Bonus! https://i.imgur.com/dx4wzNL.jpg I’ve found three different methods to remove the old snaps. First, I just try...

Re: Wind Song (26X) repairs and mods log

Taking care of some little things on the boat today. Mounted my Garmin 740s back up and ordered the power cable it needs. I also ordered a new trim tab anode for the outboard since I broke the old one while hoisting it. https://i.imgur.com/kPhIf5a.jpg I’m also pondering how I want to repair some dam...
