I'm betting Chip's right, I hit a small rock (ever so slight dent) then got vibration at high RPMs. A guy (with a smallfile) at the marina sorted it in around 5 mins.
Been good ever since.

Hi guys Frank, thanks for the warm welcome, yes, our Mac is down here, it's currently sitting in the canal at Stella Maris Marina. Any info you need about the islands, just ask. Gaz, I don't see why you couldn't afford anything down here. We aren't talking Nassau, Lyford Cay (Sean Connery stuff) or ...

New Marina @ Long Island, Bahamas

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for a post about marinas, if not can a moderator please move it, thanks. This may interest anyone looking for info about cruising the southern out islands, and especially people searching for a slip. A new marina development is planned for our part o...

Re: anyone cruised in florida keys?

Hiya, Before you look at Florida, check the Bahamas out (No tax here) the out islands are superb cruising grounds for a Mac, we have 98, :macx: on Long Island, and the Caribbean side of this island is perfect for Macs, shallow and usually calm. We are also from the UK (left 10 years ago) If you need...

Corroding laptops

We carry our laptops onboard, and worry about salt-air corrosion, is there anything I can seal them with? Aerosols? Anything? Any ideas?
Or am I being dumb and a waterproof laptop bag is the way to go?
Any ideas welcome
Thanks guys

Thanks guys
As usual this board has the answers, must say the Blackberry sounds good, althought the system is still analogue in the southern out islands, Batelco have promised digital coverage in the next month (or two)
This may be our solution.
Thanks again

Internet access aboard?

Hi all As we sail from Nassau to the southern out islands, sending and receiving emails is hard work, especially the further south you go. I'm just wondering if anyone has internet (or email) access on thier Macs, and if so how did you do it? We sail with 2 laptops (for working offline) Any ideas or...

Hi Frank Not much of a story to tell, but we did everything by email, and they did exactly what they said they would, (Strange nowadays eh) they collected our boat from Hollywood FL, towed it up to Dania, loaded it on a ship then delivered it to us. Wish there was more of a story, but, well, there a...

Hi Bill Try Accord Shipping, mark your mail for Michael, his email is, overseasshipping@cox.net They are based in California, but seem to be able to arrange shipping from just about anywhere. They delivered our Mac (on the trailer) from Miami to the Bahamas, and we were really pleased with them, Roy...

hammerite

Thanks for the reply, I'll forget the "magic bullet" guess I was just being lazy/cheap, but I had to ask anyhow.
By the way I agree entirely about the poisoning of fish etc, I'd rather have no boat at all, than poison everything around.
thanks again.

Hammerite

Hi Bobby I don't know about "anti-fouling" but I first thought about this after I cleared the garden of junk, I pulled a couple of bits of metal from a puddle and, one was covered in green slime (not painted) the other had no slime/gunk at all on it, this one had been painted with Hammerit...

Bottom paint with Hammerite????

Hi all Our Mac's coming up to needing a bottom paint, and, as newbies to boating, and, after reading a lot of horror stories about the cost, difficult application of bottom paints, I did wonder about the use of Hammerite (you know, the hammer finished stuff, found on fences and gates all over) as a ...
