Forestay

Hi Francis, I agree with all the other guys. Sounds like something isn't right.. Most of the Mac 26X's have a roller furler and that is add'l weight on the forestay with no sag effects.. Also remember that usually once the standing rigging has done it's initial stretch it won't change unless somethi...

Ugly???

Well, I have sailed the traditional boats and this X boat. I guess every mother's son is beautiful so Roger I'm sure would argue with you..

BTW the ODIN/Mast 28 is a loose copy of the 26X so you know what they say is the sincerest form of flattery...

Larger motor

One of the keys for me in looking into the larger motor is to water ski.. I do ski with the 50 hp but with the boat lightly loaded.. And at that the ski's are not completely on top of the water.. Also when towing a tuber is anyone who remotely is larger than a small kid really pulls it down.. The E-...

Jib Blocks

Don't use the genoa spring loaded blocks on the jib it will foul when crossing the wind. Because it sticks up and the jib sheet line can wrap around it..

Helped another Mac 26X owner when they had them reversed..

Slip for me..

My slip cost is $275 per year.. For that low cost it definatly a slip.. Beyond all the pluses of fast and easy is I don't have the wear and tear on putting the rig up and down.. Basically can do tuning once a year and forget it..

Larger motor

Wow, 7 pages later and much redder eyes that was a lot of discussion.. Chip, your MEE is showing.. Good Job.. Myself EE but a closet MEE.. (at the end of the day math and physics are the same regardless of pushing water or electrons). Sounds like the basics are the hull warranty BTW which on the X b...

Going to a larger motor?

Hi guys, I have always thought about moving up from the old 50 Hp to something with more HP.. Has anyone out there done an upgrade to a larger motor say 70, 90 or even 120? What were the things to do to prepare for this.. Did you have to beef up the transom? What did the extra weight do to your sail...

LED lights

I think the LED lights are great for indicators, anchor light and anything that doesn't really need a lot of light. But for the cabin I stay with the regular lighting. I have a 2 battery setup on an isolater with a house battery and a start battery so draining the battery isn't an issue. I agree tha...

Went to 50 degrees

When Wind Dancer was new we went over Labor Day weekend to Erie. Had a great time but had to return on the Labor Day Monday. Checked NOAA who predicted a 3 to 4' following sea with a weak cold front moving in from the NE and then building seas to 4 to 6' following. Basically thinking no big deal.. R...

Maybe house and start battery?

If you are a 26X check under the dinnette settee.. (Lift out the cooler well and look below) Some dealer put the house battery there.. (balance better for sailing).. Mine has a fuse just beyond the postive lead of that battery. Start battery is isolated from the house battery so the motor runs fine ...

New Mac's

My dealer personally goes to Costa Mesa every week to pick up a boat from the factory. I thought that maybe he's being cheap, trying to pocket the freight charge, less his gas, but perhaps this gives him a chance to inspect the boat prior to taking delivery. Anyway, mine was in perfect shape. They ...

Slip for me..

A slip (easy and no launch delay, a full cover (no goose poop to clean up) and I sail 100 times more frequently then I ever did trailering. Only down side is same lake every time.. When I get that urge to travel then I pull and trailer to Erie or some other big water.. Looks like a trip to Grand Hav...

Self sticking chemical removal pads

In Sail magazine there was a company that had self adhesive stripping pads. I can't seem to find them on the net but will check my library of Sail mags when I get home. The gist was you simply apply them, wait for the proper amount of time and peel them off. Here is an alternaive but looks to be a l...

Driving the boat on the trailer.

Some of the old timers (gosh that makes me sound really old) will remember the post about the rope guide harness.. It goes something like this.. Tie a rope around one of the goal posts near the top then very thightly up above the rubber V, then down to the opposite goal post. What this rope guide ha...
