Re: X marks the spot (or so we think)

Welcome Barnacle Jim, The choice is really a personal thing. I think most of your questions have been answered. I have owned my X since 1999. 99 was the the first year with the updated mods. Yes a ladder can be fitted to the early no ladder boats. But, it is a bit of a hassel. As for the V berth. Th...

Re: 26X trailer brakes

Hi Glenn,
I have a Bendix brake shoe # R154 . I also have oil seal, inner and outer and race #'s if you need them. I'll be pulling mine apart this week. They have never been changed since new in 99. It should be interesting.

Re: Sea Worthy? Ideas and thoughts

Corkscrew, I'm looking at the MAR/APR 2002 issue of Small Craft Adviser. There is quite abit about the 26X in this issue. A man names Shane St. Clair is being interviewed about small craft. St. Clair apparently owned Moonraker Developement. He states they used the X in the South Pacific to deliver m...

Re: Bimini top on a 26X

March,
That is the topping lift. It is for raising the boom when "NOT" sailing. It should be removed or slackened when sailing. I just clip the hook of the lower end to a cleat on the mast when I sail and pull it tight.

I like Dave have a Soltice. It is easy to work with and store. It works well for what I need. Running ashore or puttzin around the marina.

Re: Shoal rudders using the exsitng ones?

Dave, Do you hi speed with those? I think it is the brackets that are the real problems. Did you change to SS ? I have a 99 with the new brackets and have been looking for some used or broken 99+ rudders to make shoal rudders. I don't sail anymore and have a motoring mast like yours. capncarp, 99 :m...

Re: Home Depot Spray Dodger

Why didn't I think of that? I've been trying to figure out an inexpensive dodger for 14 years. I like it. I don't think it would be anymore detrimental than a regular dodger. Smart Rails do a great job but, the $800. doesn't.

Re: A Good Cockpit Cushion Foam?

Joe, Open cell foam is recommended for not just for the reasons above but also because of compressability. As we all know open cell foam crushes to nothing. Why waste the money. Go www.defender.com and put in" foam". They have good closed cell foam of different thickness at good prices. capncarp, 99...

Re: rivets versus screws in mast/boom

Rivets for sure. Screws strip. Rivets form a mushroom on the inside. It's very hard to pull that out. Use a quality gun.

Re: Companionway ladder mod

Robb, I see no Xer's have made a comment on this. Maybe you have been looking at pre 99 X's. All 99 and newer X's have a ladder. The ladder provides some (as much as a M) support to the cockpit thru it's contact with the floor. The ladder is so convenent as opposed to the open step of older boats. A...

Re: LED running lights

I just orderd two. One for the bow and one for my anchor light. Has anyone had trouble getting their bow light off ? After loosening the screw I can't get the top (black) off.
