Re: Push and Pull

Cool been toying with that idea for my Challenger but have not figured out where to bolt it to the front yet 8) I have a 90 degree turn at the top of my drive way and have hit the house guttering once, admiral not impressed though only minor dent on gutter and a scratch on the boat :) What kind of ...

Push and Pull

As I grow older I find it increasingly hard to maneuver my boat on trailer in really tight situations particularly in putting my boat away in the dark at the marina where I keep it mast up. At home I also have a very tricky uphill track with two 90 degree turns to get it on my parking pad at the bac...

Re: Who do you insure your Macgregor with

We are with Nautilus Marine. It costs me $778 this last year for 60K. It is higher because of my keeping it at a Marina whereas keeping it at home I would get a discount for non use in winter months, They assume at a marina you or someone else is using it all the time. The value may be a bit high an...

Re: Club Marine Insurance - fight with a ferry

On a separate note - does anyone know where I can get a replacement rub rail? The repairer is telling me it is no longer available as a spare part so they can't fix it. I have tried the 2 suppliers in AUS but if anyone knows any others even international? Sorry for your loss. I ordered mine in from...

Re: DSC vhf radios & MMSI numbers necesarry ?

Hi, I have an MMSI in Windsong and my DSC Radio is networked to my plotter. The reason I installed it is that I often have my Gks and my non nautical Admiral on board. In the event of something happening to me they can just push the DSC emergency button and it would send immediately the coordinates ...

Re: Beaching the Boat

On another related subject. Where do you run out the anchor and chain for the stern and what do you attach it to? Thanks for all your helpful comments

Re: Beaching the Boat

I have been stewing over your why question. . I am no expert but I wonder whether the anchor dragged in shallow water because of the angle of pull. In deeper water the angle would be vastly different and I think I have read somewhere that the angle is quite important in setting the rode. in the same...

Re: Beaching the Boat

If there will always be trees etc to tie to then you wont need one at all. On most beaches you will. Unfortunately I don't know the sizes but my boat came with a fairly small sand anchor as the stern anchor and I learnt that it was not enough as it dragged out several times in windy conditions. I b...

Re: Thugs - bl@@dy thugs !

You can get a micro dot paint, it was issued after I got our etec but by the time I got it on ours the paint had gone off, I still put it on but since then the powerhead has been changed although would still be some spots around the cowling and covers. could you elaborate on this "Micro Dot Paint" ...

Re: After you first got your Mac, what was the first thing y

Do you really want to know? Towing it home I pulled into a Gas (petrol) station in the dark that was really tight and broke the aluminum post & roller guide on the port side? :x I was not impressed with my trailering skills nor with the cheapness of the guides. Anyway I had 4 SS guides made that I s...

Re: Beaching the Boat

Thanks for your really good input and examples. Tide will be not much of an issue on the Gippsland Lakes so it is a good place to experiment. Will let you know how it goes. Have purchased the ladder but have not thought much about the second anchor. How necessary is that. Do you use the same size or...

Beaching the Boat

For a person who has owned a :macm: for 5 years this may sound a strange question but I have never beached my boat. I am about to spend a week on Windsong with a mate of mine and may have to use that option during our sail on the Gippsland Lakes system. What do I need to know? Should I carry a short...

Re: Exploring Gippsland Lakes in February

Hi IIayca, I actually keep my boat on trailer but mastup down there at a Marina. Sounds crazy when I live in NSW but my kids are in Melbourne so we go down 4-5 times a year and it is a great place to sail and costs me $80 per month storage. The kids also borrow it on occasions! :o [img] [IMG]http://...
