Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

A google image search for 'sail slugs' turned up . . . . . . . a MacGregorSailors.com thread with pictures. :D Wow! You have a nice google over there! :) 'Mine' google gives me only links like this http://sailing.about.com/od/boatmaintenancerepair/a/Sailsluglubricants.htm This should explain a lot....

Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

Thanks, Brian! Yes, a sail shop will be able to install - stitch, the sail slugs on for you. Before you send the sail away you might want to mark the location on the sail where the open slot is. It would be better to avoid having one of the sail slugs align with the opening in the mast when the sail...

Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

Wow, you really want the sail slides... Here are the advantages, you never have to stand on the deck of the boat to manually feed the sails bolt rope into the slot everytime you raise the mast. When the sail is lowered the slides help the mast to flake back and forth so it is easier to handle then ...

Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

Use caution :!: :!: I'm not sure what YEAR your boat is :?: If you have a NEWER Mac (2007-current) the above referenced sail stop will not work on your boat. Looks I haven't indicated it in my forum set-up. My :macm: is 2011, thanks The newer boats with the 3.5" X 4.5" mast use a flat style stop, n...

Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

Thank you for your time, Chris! so, I am ordering now (from BWY): 1. single-line reefing kit, as it isn't that expensive - and then I'll see whether I want to upgrade further, or it is OK as is. 2. Boom Vang Kit 3. Halyards Aft Kit (I think I take $199.00 Kit with 3 rope clutches, third one just in ...

Re: Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

Thank you, Chris! I'm going to hit a few things on your list but not all: For me, #1 thing to do is all lines AFT to the cockpit. Best thing for safety and ease of sailing. With that you really want to convert your sail to use sail slugs (or slides) instead of feeding the bolt rope up the mast. Sure...

Choosing rigging for summer - advice needed

I am sailing in Turkey now, where it is not easy at all to buy any rigging for :macm: . :( I have decided that it is time to get ready for summer, so in few days I am flying to USA, to buy some items and to bring them with me. I have started from brosing the BWY site, looking for 'must have' items f...

Re: Mainsail raising issues

Hi, Ahmet! Wanted to welcome you to community. I am in a similar situation - I am sailing in Turkey, and in that area it isn't easy to get advice from other sailors. ;) Anyway, this Fora is the best knowledge base that I know of. I know Dubai a bit, been there. Yes, almost 100% of people do motor-bo...

Re: Looking for WIFI antenna boost recommendations

It's best to not drink the beer before making the beer can antenna. . I've tried BOTH ways - results are surprisingly similar! 8) The biggest problem with WiFi is the fragility of the signal. I found big powerboats significantly blocked signal even if directional. Getting above them is the key. Sur...

Re: Looking for WIFI antenna boost recommendations

wanted to add my 2 cents there is a way to build a DIRECTIONAL wi-fi antenna out of a beer can. Costs nothing, around 30 minutes of work. Won't help when anchored, but helps in marinas. If you use Wi-Fi dongle, or Wi-Fi 'stick' antenna, just place it in focus. That is how I used them. Here is one th...

Re: Towing behind a M26

So, there's no chance for pulling an adult wakeborder, 220lbs with my 60 hp Mercury (NOT BigFoot). Really? Oh, what a blow. ;) And relief at the same time. ;) Should I cancel my order of the Vortex 4-blade prop (11.5" dia, 8" pitch), as my Vortex 4-blade prop (11.5 dia", pitch 10) is not that for cr...

Sailing alone (some questions, and some warning)

Hi! Finally, I've done some sailing alone, and I must admit I have more questions than answers. And some piece of advice. 1. How do you hoist the mainsail when alone and sailing singlehanded? OK, forget hoising - how do you take it down? For me, it was PITA situation. When alone (and no autopilot), ...

and some personal questions, too Dear Catigale ! You wrote that If you go to the Mercury website you can find reports of boat speed vs motor that can help you get the best prop....I don't think anyone else has this combo on a Mac though. I have checked the http://www.mercurymarine.com/ , and I don't...

Hello everybody! I am back... First of all, I want to say that I am grateful for every reply I got, thanks . Awesome to have such a forum with supportive members. (One more reason to own a Macgregor!) Now back to engine and prop! I have changed oil, made sure engine is checked by Mercury official se...
