Re: Who would build their own if the plans were available ?

Ixneigh, You've made a lot of good points, a concise breakdown of why the boat market is the way it is. For those who want to build (and there are many) a kit is a huge plus. My idea of redoing an :macx: is psychological. If you have a floating hull with the specifics of propulsion, steering, and ba...

Re: Who would build their own if the plans were available ?

Raymond,(please excuse my presumption here) So we're thinking the same way about the length. The practical standing headroom in an :macx: is 66" so 72" is about 8.5% bigger and that would mean a 26' boat 8.5% bigger which is 28.2'. I'm very interested in the cabin/cockpit layout especially for foul ...

Re: Turing into the wind w/o control? WTF?

I had this problem the first season with my :macx: and after removing some of the mast rake the biggest difference was made by going from the 110 jib to a 150 Genoa. If I was having trouble with rounding up the first thing I'd do is reef the main not the head sail. It's the over-powering of the main...

Re: Who would build their own if the plans were available ?

My "suddenly don't need to work for a living anymore" idea is to get a cheap used :macx: without motor and cut the deck off and remove the liner. Then work out a center cockpit or pilot house superstructure. Advantages are: 1. No need to re-invent the wheel...just the car rolling on it so to speak 2...

Re: Awesome day on water yesterday

Starscream, I had a chance to single hand last Saturday. Broad Reach. As usual I made half a dozen mistakes. One thing I did figure out was how to raise my main. My single handed mainsail raising system(made easier now by stowing main in reverse order) ****to make it simple reef your main on the boo...

Victor,

Are you running a 50 while your 90 is in the shop or were you comparing you wounded 90 to your old 50?

Re: Best prop for Honda 50

4 blader or for worse... My summary of all the prop threads (largely influenced by my recent experience) is this: You need to move a lot of water to move a Mac Guys with big power can run big diameter and as DarrenJ showed experience little slip. Less power but with bigfoot 2.33:1gear or lower can r...

Re: Beaten by a 26D

Windchime mentioned seeing you in Roche then claimed his docklines were tangled and he never made it to the Rendezvous at Thetis Island. There were 16 Macs there. Someone on MYCBC reported seeing your flotilla in the San Juans and Darry from Windchime confirmed it was on your homeward leg. There wer...

Hi Phil, I gotta say there's been a few topics on the Forum that had me thinking Phil M will chime in on that but you didn't :? . I took me a bit but I did notice your absence so clearly you have an impact here 8) You oughtta contact the MYCBC and maybe catch a ride to Sucia with a fellow Mac owner ...

Re: Trailerable Slip concept

Hmmm Hey Matt, looking at the drawing you might need a hinge or something against the vertical pillar at the front of the trailer, or is it supposed to hinge with the floating portion? Ahhh my bad. I'm gonna end up editing my drawing several times at this rate. Shoulda left the drafting to the pros ...

Re: Trailerable Slip concept

Sounds good to me, easy design too. Makes me think of the hinged snowmobile and car trailers, when you un-pin the hinge and back your vehicle past a certain point the deck tips and the back touches the ground. For loading you drive slowly onto the tipped deck and when you pass the Center of gravity ...

Re: Sailing Video

Very nice, our whole family watched together.

Nice sailing too!

It was nice to see the familiar haunts as well as a few we haven't visited yet.

Re: Removing 50 hp restrictor plate makes a 60 hp?

Hi Lynn, Your gear ratio means your engine turns 1.85times for every time the prop turns. So 5,300 Rpm at engine = 2,865 Rpm at prop Mine is a 2:1 so at 5,500Rpm engine = 2,750Rpm at prop but I have a 4 blade with 9" pitch so we end up at nearly identical boat speed I ran the numbers and you have ab...

I just re-watched the second video....

So your speed over ground was 4.8kts and the Wind Speed was 7.6kts

Very nice setup with the instrumentation :P

Re: Removing 50 hp restrictor plate makes a 60 hp?

Lynn, Do you have the owners manual for your outboard? What's the gear ratio? Your final engine performance numbers are almost identical to my :macx: with my 1996 Mercury 50hp 4 stroke (not big foot)running medium load(homeward run from cruising). I did get a Michigan Wheel 4-blade 12"x9"pitch and l...
